Forest Reigns Shares More Details About Its Unique Nature Mechanics

The forest can be a great ally but also a treacherous foe.

The action survival game Forest Reigns offers some unique mechanics, and players are keen to learn how they work, among other things. In a recent Q&A, the developers at VG Entertainment answered a few of the most frequently asked player questions.

The game centers around creating immersive, story-driven experiences and features interactive environments where the forest that took over the city plays a pivotal role. Forest Reigns is designed as a single-player experience. While co-op is on their mind, this is something they plan to add later if there is demand for it. Set in Paris, the developers want to take full advantage of the city’s rich history and find that the unique mix of urban and post-apocalyptic natural landscapes complements each other really well.

As stated before, the forest acts as a key character in this game, responding to player actions, helping them during combat, and reshaping the terrain. For example, by shooting exposed roots, they will grow, allowing you to use them as cover from enemy bullets. Certain bushes become bullet reflectors once shot. Over the course of the game, you unlock different abilities and equipment that let you interact with the forest in different ways, expanding your options. However, you are not the only person who can do this, as the various factions have similar abilities.

Each one of them has its own vision for humanity’s future. Depending on your choices and which faction you decide to be friendly with, the ending of the story will change, along with the resources and technology available to you. This also opens up new side quests and a safe zone where you can check your perks, plan your next moves, craft new gear, or repair your weapons as they degrade with use.

If you would like to learn more about it, Forest Reigns just launched a new gameplay trailer that showcases these features.

What do you think about the unique way the devs used nature in the game? Let me know in the comments.
