Far From Home has revealed new details about the upcoming gardening update for their airship survival game, Forever Skies. They showed many new crafting and building recipes, how farming is going to impact your game, and some tips to speed up the process.
According to the developers, players who do not want to interact with this feature much can keep their gardening endeavors simple. Just having a few plant pots will be enough to keep you fed. However, taking on more complex gardening projects can be highly beneficial as you will be able to automate the process and grow any crop in the game, even the ones that are only found under the dust.
To a fully automatic and self-sustaining airship garden, you require a few new technologies that are found in various parts of the world, most likely the greenhouses. The new farming blueprints include water tanks, distillers, a pipe network, sprinklers, plant pots both small and large, and more.

The small garden pots are suitable for growing plants such as Ink Bulbs, Petit Astre, and Bruiseflower, so mainly the flowers that are used in medicine recipes. While larger plants that can be used for consumption like Sunmelon, Coffee Nut, and Green Collander can be grown in big garden pots.
The developers mentioned that “In most cases, you will need to plant the seed from the item you want to grow!” which implies we will see crops that do not require seed to grow.
The speed at which a plant grows can be increased by adding a special fertilizer in the Distiller, this is made using rotten food so you no longer have to throw your old dinner overboard. As mentioned before, some flora only grows under the dust, such as Breathnuts. This can be grown on your airship, however, it will require you to craft dust fertilizer and add it to the garden pot.
Will you be dedicating a large room to farming, or will you keep it simple? Let me know in the comments.
