Developers Far From Home has announced that Forever Skies is being delayed until 2023. They also explained the reason behind this delay and we got our first look at the mysterious world below the dust.
Over the last few weeks, the first Forever Skies playtest was available on Steam where you could explore the skies for a limited amount of time. The demo reached over 80.000 downloads and the developers received a lot more feedback from players than expected. With this surge of interest, they decided to delay the game and add more features before the early access release.

The most notable addition is the world under the dust. Exploring down there was meant to be part of the first major update for the game. Following this news, they shared the first-ever pictures of a city below the dust. Tall ruined buildings are overgrown with giant plants and the air is filled with the yellow-green haze which is the dust.
Multiple features were not included in the first demo. When Forever Skies releases into early access there will be more distinct towers and other locations to explore. Ship damage has also been turned off due to it not being fully finished. The developers want to make repairing your ship feel less like a chore and more like a weighing decision. How this is going to look in the game was not mentioned.
Another feature missing from the demo was developing cures for viruses. The developers noted that the viruses you get during the game are not only negative. Some can be modified to give new abilities and boosts to the player and are needed to progress with your mission.
The co-op feature will still not be available at launch as things stand but will be implemented during early access. They also confirmed the story will not be complete at launch. It will be when the full release hits but they are currently unsure if they want to release it in chapters or as one big update.
Forever Skies is expected to release in the first half of 2023 and we can expect other playtests before that time.
How do you like the first look of the world below the dust? Is it something you expected? Let me know in the comments.
