    P.O.U.L. Tactical Gaming Analysis Report.
    8
    • Pros
    • The game’s atmosphere feels both eerie and captivating as you soar above the toxic clouds in your airship.
    • Basic survival mechanics include health, food, water, and oxygen management. An additional energy meter affects your max stamina, adding another layer of realism.
    • Crafting stations allow you to prepare food and purify water, while farming and fishing provide sustainable resources.
    • Focusing more on survival and exploration.
    • Cons
    • Minor graphical glitches, such as textures popping in and occasional clipping issues with the environment. Sometimes it feels like the world is glitching just to keep me on my toes.
    • Docking mechanics can feel a bit awkward, but nothing game-breaking has been encountered.
    • Combat is minimal.

Environmental Analysis (Graphics & World Design)

    Tactical Readout:
The game is set on an ecologically ruined, post-apocalyptic Earth, with a unique open-world design that feels vast yet intimate.
Players navigate a high-tech airship, upgrading and customizing it while scavenging resources and exploring derelict structures.
The environmental storytelling is subtle yet effective. The world feels abandoned, with every ruined building hinting at humanity’s fall.

    Visual Recon:
The game’s atmosphere feels both eerie and captivating as you soar above the toxic clouds in your airship.
Visuals are crisp, with beautiful lighting effects and detailed post-apocalyptic landscapes.
The lonely expanse of the sky and the scattered Points of Interest (POIs) create a constant sense of curiosity and unease.

Logistics & Resource Management (Progression & Replayability)

    Mission Logistics:
Resource management is key, with players needing to balance survival needs with airship upgrades and exploration, and if you’re like me, you’ll hoard resources like your life depends on it, because, well… it does.
Researching new technologies requires scanning items found at POIs or locating blueprints, adding a layer of depth to progression.
The game encourages exploration by rewarding curiosity with new tools and upgrades.

    Replayability Factor:
High replayability due to the open-ended nature of exploration and the variety of POIs scattered throughout the world.
The introduction of co-op gameplay adds another layer of fun and strategic depth.

    Team Dynamics (Multiplayer/Co-op Potential)

    Squad Viability:
Co-op allows up to 3 friends to join your adventure, making resource gathering and survival more dynamic and engaging because what’s better than surviving alone? Watching your friends mess up in real time.
Teamwork is essential when managing resources and tackling larger exploration sites.

    Operational Rating (Out of 10):

    Immersion Factor: 8/10
    Combat Efficiency: 5/10 (not combat-focused)
    Survival Challenge: 8/10
    Bug Resistance: 7/10
    Overall Enjoyment: 8/10

    Survival Viability Verdict:

    ☑ Deploy Immediately (Must Play)
☐ Proceed with Caution (Worth Trying)
    ☐ Extraction Recommended (Avoid)
☐ Burn It with Fire (Never Again)

    Final Thoughts:
Forever Skies is a standout survival game that offers a fresh take on the genre with its airship mechanics and post-apocalyptic setting.
The balance of resource management, exploration, and survival makes it a must-play for fans of Raft and Subnautica.
Tactical lesson learned: Always keep an eye on your oxygen and energy levels. Flying too high without a plan can lead to quick disaster. Trust me, I learned the hard way when I almost became a human meteor.

    • Pros
    • Unique setting
    • Immersive visuals
    • Sense of aloneness
    • Cons
    • Difficulty ramp up from early to mid is a bit steep
    • Low density of interactable items on platforms

Forever skies does a great job of capturing that deep, aching feeling of isolation which really brings a survival game to life. The visuals of the swarming atmosphere are mesmerizing, somehow being both beautiful and frightening at the same time.

Enjoy a well balanced diet of pollution moths and cabbages. Don’t question why cabbages are attracted by bait.

I’m yet to revisit this since full release having played early access for some time. But every step of the way the developers have put care and love into their creation.

This game will not disappoint anyone who loves Subnautica or that feeling of being stranded somewhere they probably don’t belong.

Forever Skies is a one of the great example of a small-studio early-access game done right. It’s a beautiful title that explores some unique new ideas and has wonderful game-design sensibilities.
As of writing this review, I’ve played it fully through several times, at different stages of early access. The first playthrough was admittedly a bit rougher, but it felt like a fair good and a ton of potential. I had a great enjoy, right up till the moment the story ended.
I’ve come back after a while, and noticed there was some new content. So I played it from the beginning again. I’m glad I did, there were a lot of changes that I like so much. There is also another part to the story, which I find more enticing the more I explore the world.
It currently struggles a bit with performance issues. This is understandable, as the team is focusing on design and content before optimization. I am able to enjoy it fully. It’s a pretty chill experience.
This gives me major Subnautica vibes and Raft as well. They are both fairly chill in terms of survival elements. Both deliver their stories through data logs and such, have an interesting world to explore. I suppose one big difference is there’s nowhere near as much wildlife in Forever Skies, But it’s got it’s own unique charms instead.
I highly recommend! You should definitely give it a chance.

    • Pros
    • Apocalyptic Survival Setting
    • A Flying Expandable Base
    • Dealing With Viral Infection & Science
    • Cons
    • The Story Need More Finesse
    • Very Few Real Dangers

I’ve played through just about all releases of the beta and have enjoyed discovering each new addition they have put in the game. It’s got a lot of similarities to Raft and Subnautica, which for me is a plus.

I’d like to see more story and narration, but it doesn’t hold it back, just a lack of polish on that end.

They developers are constantly adding more and take feedback quite well.

    Forever Skies: Conquering Post-Apocalyptic Skies

    • Pros
    • Immersive World
    • Adventure for Everyone and Tailored Experience
    • Artistic Direction to Fall For
    • Update Potential
    • Cons
    • Technical Stability
    • Limited Content

One Sunday morning, while browsing game demo videos on YouTube with my daughter, I stumbled upon a game that oddly reminded me of Subnautica, a game I absolutely loved (you can read my review for some shameless self-promotion, haha). Seeing a game resembling it, but this time in the sky and not underwater, got me excited—very excited. A few months later, the game is finally available, and I got my hands on it (a bit late to the party, but better late than never). So, let’s dive into the world of “Forever Skies.”

The story unfolds on an Earth devastated by an ecological catastrophe. Toxic dust has engulfed the planet’s surface, compelling survivors to seek refuge in orbit. In this post-apocalyptic world, players take on the role of explorers repairing, upgrading, and flying airships between different skyscrapers. Our mission? Find viral pathogens to cure a disease and attempt to restore humanity.

After a few minutes of gameplay, where you find your ship and equip it with a fabricator, research station, and engine, you’re free to explore as you please. There are given objectives, and it might be wise to follow them for the first couple of hours to get acquainted with everything. After that, you’re free to spend as much time flying as you like. Exploration isn’t just for fun; you’ll need to build, collect resources, and, most importantly, try not to die while in the desert that was once Earth.

You have four gauges in the lower corner of your screen, measuring energy, food, water, and health. Food and water are the ones you need to keep an eye on constantly, as they deplete the fastest, and if they hit zero, it’s game over. I was a bit surprised at how unforgiving “Forever Skies” can be at times. You really need to hustle to ensure you have regular food and water if you want to survive. So, I crammed a cooker, a water purifier, and more into my cramped airship, considering the research station and fabricator already took up a lot of space.

You can upgrade your ship as you see fit, adding more parts for a more spacious so you can breathe the toxic air around you and have a better view of the world. I didn’t go too far with customizing my ship because I liked the cozy feel of a smaller environment, but there’s potential for some truly impressive ship constructions.

“Forever Skies” might not be the best survival game for beginners in the genre, it demands a lot in the opening segment, both in terms of staying alive and in terms of resources. There are many vital elements that require a good amount of resources found on the map. Fortunately, they are mostly abundant early on, but the extractor on your ship is an absolute priority at this early stage. Without it, you’ll be left dead in the water. Or in the sky, I suppose.

With a soundtrack that perfectly complements the gaming experience, “Forever Skies” offers a captivating visual universe that blends post-apocalyptic landscapes with futuristic elements. The floating islands, terrestrial ruins, and clear skies are beautifully rendered, with meticulous details in textures and lighting. The airships, designed with a retro-futuristic aesthetic, add a unique touch to the environment.

Now, let’s talk about the downsides. Since the game is still in early access, there are occasional technical instabilities with a fair share of bugs and slowdowns. Also, some strange collisions and enemies behaving entirely whimsically. But let’s be fair; these glitches are often addressed as updates roll out.

“Forever Skies” is a promising game that skillfully combines exploration, management, and combat in a post-apocalyptic world. Despite some technical issues and limited content in early access, the immersive experience offered by the striking graphics and evocative soundtrack is unforgettable. Players should keep an eye on future updates, as this game has the potential to become a must-play for adventure and survival game enthusiasts, much like Subnautica.

    • Pros
    • Unique Survival-Crafting Game that Look and Feel Futuristic
    • Steampunk Airship Base Building
    • Challenging
    • Cons
    • Still Feels Very Empty and Unfinished

The concept and potential of the game are promising.

Forever Skies, a new and unique futuristic survival game, and I have to say, I was impressed. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the Earth’s atmosphere has become poisoned, making it uninhabitable for humans. As a player, your mission is to figure out if Earth can be made habitable again while also uncovering the mysteries of what happened to the scientists who were sent down before you.

One of the standout features of Forever Skies is its futuristic, steam-punk style of base building, crafting, and exploration. The game has a similar feel to popular survival games like Raft and Subnautica, but with a twist – you are living in the sky, above the toxic gases below. This adds a whole new feel to the survival style gameplay, as you have to constantly monitor your oxygen levels and make sure your base is well-protected from the poisonous gases.

The graphics and visuals in Forever Skies are stunning, with detailed clouds of gases and a well-designed post-apocalyptic sky scrapers for the backdrop. I do wish one was able to do more exploring within some of the sky scraper buildings.

However, the downside to the game is that it still feels unfinished. As mentioned, Forever Skies is still in the early access stage of development, so there are some aspects that are lacking, such as a fully fleshed out storyline and more varied gameplay elements. But this is to be expected, and I have no doubt that the developers will continue to add more content and improve upon the game as it progresses.

Overall, I recommend giving Forever Skies a try. It offers a unique and engaging gameplay experience, with its mix of survival, building, and exploration elements. While it may still need some work, the potential of this game is evident, and I am excited to see how it evolves in the future. So strap on your oxygen tank and get ready to soar through the Forever Skies!

Full disclosure: I have not, at the time of this writing, completed the game.

This game is very much like Subnautica, without being Subnautica. I am, so far, very impressed with the game. It is fun and challenging. Great graphics and audio. There is a large amount of grinding, but it does advance the story. Can’t wait to see how the story develops from here.
