First things first, I love this game, is one of the few ARPG that “scratches” that itch since Titan Quest, Grim Dawn, POE (Stopped with the game cus I’m waiting for POE2), Diablo 2.
The game is fun, the story still has some rough edges but is kinda good too. The only real complaint that I have is about the endgame, it doesn’t feel like it has a lot of things to do once you reach that “cap”. The game is still in early access tho (and since I was an avid PoE player maybe that’s why I feel this way), besides that, it has a lot of content, items, builds, paths you can take. As I said, the game is fun, play it your way, don’t go for “meta builds” or anything, just feel the game first, see if it is for you, basically, give it a chance!
I’m a big ARPGs fan and have hundreds of hours in Titan Quest, Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, Wolcen etc. So, Last Epoch has parts from all of these games and more. Its graphic feels modern like in Wolcen; Its playstyle and UI feels close to Path of Exile. The game also feels polished as much as Grim Dawn after a few years from its release. I mean, developers put years into Last Epoch and all of its interfaces are clean and very informative, easy to understand (unlike Path of Exile, which is a more complicated game). However, since Last Epoch is still in Early Access, its campaign is unfinished and its late game could feel quite boring if to compare it to Atlas endgame from Path of Exile. Nonetheless, playing Last Epoch feels fulfilling (and more importantly fun) throughout the campaign and at level 50 my build was more or less finished, which corresponded to the end of the current campaign. There are also a variety of builds you can create for the same class and all of them are looking playable (there are some ARPGs like Diablo, which have a variety of builds for the hero class in theory, but in reality only one build is valid, so-called meta build. Last Epoch is perfect for people like me who are looking for some balance in things).
Well, there are still some rough edges about the balance of the game, for example, there were a few points when I got one-shoted by the enemy. It’s just came from nowhere especially because I was dealing with other enemies no problem. On another hand, in games like Path of Exile you can die instantly from nowhere on a regular basis (be you a newbie or an experienced player). One other thing to mention about Last Epoch is the variety of monsters and how live and colorful the game feels. It definitely has this special charm about it.
Lastly, the most important thing about the game: it has LOOT, a lot of it. You also probably never run out of space to store your loot. You can buy additional space by using in-game gold. That means that no mule characters, external programs or real money purchases are required. Great news indeed.
