Hypixel Studios has outlined the current state, direction, and scope of Hytale as it prepares for an Early Access release on PC. The game is positioned as a sandbox survival RPG that combines procedural world generation, exploration, combat, building, and extensive modding support, with development now fully independent following its reacquisition from Riot Games. I think anyone who loves Minecraft will love this—perhaps even more.
Hytale features a procedurally generated world designed to support exploration and player-driven stories. Landscapes include ruins, caverns, landmarks, and biome-specific environments populated by distinct wildlife and hostile creatures. Players may encounter random events, hidden locations, and environmental storytelling elements that provide historical context through discovered items, creatures, and locations. Each playthrough is intended to vary due to world generation and emergent encounters.
Core gameplay systems at Early Access launch will include Exploration Mode, Creative Mode, and full modding support. Players can engage in combat, gather resources, build structures block by block, farm crops, cook food, and create transportation systems such as minecart networks. The game supports both solo play and multiplayer, allowing players to explore and build together across shared worlds.

Modding is a central pillar of Hytale’s design. At launch, players will be able to create and modify content, run custom servers, and design new experiences with minimal technical knowledge. Dedicated server support and data-driven configuration tools will be available, with plans to provide server source code access within several months. Modding will extend to both client-side content and server-side systems, with an emphasis on maintaining backward compatibility as development continues.
Official minigames and Adventure Mode will not be available at Early Access launch. The developers have confirmed that these features will be developed later, once core systems are stable. A dedicated team is assigned to minigame development, but community-created minigames and custom servers will be supported from the start. Pets, animal taming, fishing, proximity voice chat, and official minigames are planned features but will not be ready at launch.
The Early Access version will use the original legacy engine seen in earlier trailers. Hypixel confirmed it has abandoned a newer cross-platform engine due to its lack of gameplay readiness. The legacy engine is playable now and allows faster iteration. The game currently includes over 100 NPCs and thousands of items and blocks, many of which remain unbalanced or unfinished.

Hytale will launch on PC for $24.99, with Linux and Mac support being explored. Console and mobile versions are planned for later stages but are not part of Early Access. The game will not initially release on Steam, as the studio intends to focus on feedback from its existing community and address modding limitations that currently affect Steam integration.
Hypixel has also emphasized that Early Access will include bugs, unfinished systems, and frequent updates that may affect saves or balance, with no target timeline for a full 1.0 release. It’s important to keep that in mind before jumping in, unless you’re like me, ready to roll from the start.
