For me, Wild Sky looks promising. It combines my needs into one title, but, there’s always room for improvement, right? I’m glad to see the developers over at Blue Isle Studios, seem to agree. Recent updates outlined what players can expect following the game’s strong showing during Steam Next Fest. Its demo drew significant attention and feedback, allowing developers to shift their focus on shaping the game based on community input while preparing for its next phase.
One of the most notable confirmations is that mod support will be available at launch. You know me, I’m always down to support the modding community. According to the developers, tools are being built directly into the game to allow players to create new content ranging from items and creatures to entire islands and gameplay systems. The intent is to make the game flexible enough that user-created content can significantly expand or even transform the experience over time. More specific details on how those tools will function are expected later.
Development is currently centered on locking in mid- and late-game content that wasn’t included in the demo. At the same time, several core systems are being reworked. Building mechanics have been redesigned, replacing the previous hammer-based approach with a full-screen interface that aims to streamline construction. Structural placement has also been adjusted so that pieces automatically align with surfaces, with an option to toggle that behavior.
Controller support has been another major focus. Full gamepad compatibility is planned for Early Access, with adjustments to menus and input systems to ensure consistency across gameplay features like combat, inventory management, and base building. Alongside that, the interface itself is undergoing broader changes, with improved readability and updated visual elements intended to address issues raised during testing.

Beyond interface and accessibility improvements, the developers are continuing to refine gameplay systems. Adjustments to the tutorial aim to strike a balance between guidance and open-ended exploration. Meanwhile, AI behavior is being improved, particularly in how companion creatures navigate the environment and assist in tasks or combat. Animation updates are also underway, with changes to character models and new idle behaviors being introduced.
Additional work is being done on progression systems such as economy balancing, breeding mechanics, and resource-based activities like fishing and farming. Performance optimization and stability remain ongoing priorities as the team prepares for a broader release.
As Guardians of the Wild Sky celebrates 400,000 wishlists, the developers aim even higher by adding new features and preparing for the grand release coming this year.
