New Survival RPG is Like Zelda: Breath of the Wild But With Monster Taming

The developers revealed that breeding a perfect creature can take hundreds of hours.

Breath of the Wild redefined what open world exploration feels like. And now, the newly revealed survival crafting RPG from Magnus Games Studio and Shueisha Games, aims to share same spirit of discovery with its floating landmasses, ancient ruins, and wide oceans. But it adds something Zelda’s world of Hyrule never had. Instead of fighting every creature you encounter, you can tame them and breed them for unique traits.

The game was first shown in 2023 under the codename Project Survival, and it has undergone serious changes since then. The developers switched to a different engine entirely mid development, which is the kind of decision that either kills a project or forces the team to rebuild everything from scratch with a much clearer idea of what they want. According to producer Masakazu Kobayashi from Shueisha Games, the team at Magnus Games Studio managed the switch without losing momentum and the final result looks significantly better for it. That context matters because it explains why the game took three years from its initial tease to a proper name and a release window.

In the game, you are a survivor landing on a planet that was supposed to be dead, but instead you find a functioning ecosystem full of creatures that have never seen humans before. Taming them requires patience rather than combat. The breeding system encourages you to keep raising generations of the same species to push toward better stats and rare cosmetic variations. The developers have described the hunt for a perfect creature as a journey that can last hundreds of hours, which either sounds like a dream or a warning depending on how much you enjoy that kind of grind.

Beyond the creatures, the game offers standard survival mechanics with flexibility, where you can build bases nearly anywhere, including on top of waterfalls and inside volcano craters. Farming and fishing are included, and your monster companions can take over some of the busywork like watering crops and tilling soil.

While the game is not trying to reinvent the survival genre, it does look like a title worthy of attention from players who enjoyed Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Palworld. It also reminds me of Towers of Aghasba, which unfortunately did not fare well.

The developers have just published the first gameplay trailer and revealed that Wild Wild Eden is set to launch into Early Access in Spring 2027.
