  1. Joakhim
    Misses the Mark
    3
    • Pros
    • Bright, cartoony steampunk visuals with some charm
    • Some creative mechanical designs
    • Cons
    • Extremely challenging
    • Poor level design that can feel confusing and frustrating
    • Lack of clear instructions or tutorials
    • Repetitive gameplay
    • Limited content for the price

RailGods of Hysterra aims to be a fun and vibrant platformer but ends up feeling unpolished and overly difficult in a frustrating way. Its lack of guidance, uneven difficulty, and technical hiccups make it a less-than-pleasant experience. Fans of challenging games might appreciate its intent, but casual players and those seeking a polished, enjoyable platformer may want to look elsewhere.

    Too early to like

    • Pros
    • Cthulu muthos
    • steam train as a base
    • sanity mechanics
    • Cons
    • really clunky combat
    • sanity lowers way too fast, no time to really do anything on a map
    • many boring, pointless maps
    • mid-game mechanics like your base (train) getting wrecked by sudden attacks

The underlying IP is interesting but the mechanics in the game are too irritating to really make it fun. However this is still early access, so maybe let it cook for a year before checking it out again.

    Meanwhile, it’s just not fun

    – maps are big and generally boring but you don’t know that until you actually explore them
    – it’s hard to explore a map because your sanity lowers so quickly and you won’t be able to really do much
    – so you have to prepare a huge expedition supply cache including tea to restore your sanity for each map
    – only for the map to be actually kind of pointless
    – almost soulslike combat with enemies doing huge damage
    – clunky control scheme — they should have just done a Diablo style / Path of Exile style combat with the isometric view; those are tried and true combat mechanics
    – using ranged weapons like the bow is extremely clunky with an odd control scheme

Let this title cook for at least a year. They are addressing some issues (e.g., they slowed down hunger by quite a bit after early feedback). Major mechanics changes may be in the works to actually make this game respect your time and be fun.
