Rust Brings a Major Overhaul to Its Open World

From resource-rich canyons to lush oases, there is a lot to explore!

Since Rust launched in Early Access in 2013, Facepunch Studios has released over 375 content updates, adding new features and improving gameplay. The developer recently came up with the World Update 2.0, which primarily focuses on enhancing the landscape while introducing new elements such as lakes, canyons, and oases.

Along the shores of lakes, you can build bases, gather resources, fish, and farm. However, the open spaces make you an easy target, and swimming can slow you down if you need to escape quickly.

Canyons are visually stunning, and while exploring them, it’s easy to forget the dangers they present. The narrow paths and steep drops make it hard to escape if you get ambushed.

An oasis is a perfect place for building a base and farming, as it contains small pools of water, an essential resource for survival. Taking advantage of an oasis won’t be easy, as it also attracts other players looking for resources.

Cliffs are now visually more authentic because Facepunch Studios has completely redesigned them. There are two types: tall coastal cliffs located near the ocean and inclined cliffs found further inland that cover hills and mountains.

The developers have brought back some old rock formations that players love, such as Anvil Rock, Arch Rock, and God Rock. They also added new rock formations, which can be found off the coast and used for building bases.

This update brings significant changes to dive sites that can now be located much easier, as they are marked with solid buoys instead of floating bottles. Every site has its unique flora and fauna, which you can explore with the newly added diver propulsion vehicle.

Facepunch Studios has also reintroduced Radtown, which was available in Legacy Rust. This area has been redesigned to be more engaging and rewarding, featuring new pathways and places to explore that make it feel more natural and easier to navigate.

Lastly, the item store has been replenished with a new Frontiersman pack that includes a Frontier Hazmat Suit, Frontier hatchet, and blunderbuss. I really the looks of the suit, as seen in the cover image, and it looks different from what I’ve seen in the game so far.

These and other changes can now be found in Rust, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the game will bring next!
