Salt 2: Shores of Gold Adds Endgame Content in 1.0 Update

Take on the new world bosses and obtain legendary items.

Salt 2 has officially launched with a major update that reshapes its late-game experience. The 1.0 release adds new world bosses, legendary items, and an endgame progression system, along with improvements to combat, performance, and quality of life.

The new endgame loop begins with a dedicated NPC at level 40 who sends survivors on hunts for rare items and bosses in exchange for legendary rewards. This content is tied to world tier 5, which unlocks once players reach higher levels, offering a structured challenge beyond standard quests. Legendary recipes and gear add variety to the crafting system, giving experienced players reasons to revisit the world in search of rare materials and blueprints. A new endgame merchant has also appeared, offering ship decorations for high prices. These additions expand on the ship customization feature, allowing players to personalize their mobile bases.

Exploration has been expanded through new points of interest, along with numerous quality-of-life updates. Single-player mode now pauses during certain menus, and players can rotate decorations with the mouse scroll wheel, loot small areas more efficiently, and navigate crafting menus more easily. Adjustments to audio, lighting, and interface responsiveness address long-standing feedback from the Early Access period. The game’s engine has also been updated to fix memory leaks and stability issues, improving performance during extended sessions. Developers continue to emphasize cooperative exploration and crafting over player-versus-player combat. The procedurally generated world and customizable ships encourage players to explore, whether seeking legendary treasures or simply sailing between islands.

Combat and movement systems have been refined to feel smoother and more responsive. Power attacks charge more reliably, blocking and dodging animations are better synchronized, and resting now restores stamina. Hit detection for larger enemies has been adjusted, and overall movement during combat and exploration feels more precise. Other improvements include reduced lantern brightness, clearer compass visibility, and balanced environmental sound levels.

Dozens of smaller fixes target interaction bugs, UI issues, and visual glitches. Players can now loot with improved indicators, avoid animation interruptions during combat, and experience more stable physics when swimming or climbing. The developers also addressed issues with quest items, crafting menus, and multiplayer synchronization, further polishing the experience.

Though this update marks the game’s full release, development will continue. The team plans to add more island types, quests, enemies, and items based on players feedback. Salt 2 is available on Steam, offering a 20% launch discount until November 26.
