Scum Unleashes the New Horde Mechanic

The prison island got a lot more infested.

Gamepires has released the final early access update for their post-apocalyptic survival game SCUM. The Horde Update, also known as update 0.95, brings a rework of the crafting system, three zone types with different threat levels, and a few new weapons.

The pickup truck, now called the Rager, is back with a modular design and can fit up to six people, perfect for big groups. Meaning you can take it apart and reinstall doors, seats, and so on.

The developers also introduced a newly reworked crafting system, adding a much more intuitive UI and the ability to choose the number of items you want to craft, which is a must in any survival crafting game. The skill requirements have also changed. Certain recipes used to be locked until you were at the right level, this is no longer the case, and you are able to craft any item right from the start, but higher skill levels mean fewer resources are needed.

On the island, there are now three types of zones now: High threat, Medium threat, and Low threat. The chance of triggering a horde depends on the zone you’re in, the higher the threat level, the bigger the chance. New server settings have been added for this feature, so players can tweak it the way they want. A horde is triggered if you make loud sounds like gunfire and explosives, or if a puppet enemy spots you and screams. They can now also vault through windows and bash through doors. This new addition to the game will make surviving a lot tougher.

Are you a fan of lighting zombies on fire? In the latest update, you can go to town with the brand-new improvised flamethrower, as long as you have the fuel to keep it going. They also added a firefighter suit, which is the perfect attire for any fighter with fire.

What do you think of the new horde system? Let me know in the comments.
