A feast has come to the Viking homes as the Farmers and Fighters update for Aska is here. The new update includes a militia system, a seasonal crop schedule feature, a cave revamp with mining improvements, and additional customization options.

You are now able to defend your base with the help of regular villagers, whom you can recruit as town guards, called the militia. During attacks on your village, they will be the first to stand up and protect the base from invaders. To mobilize and rally them quickly to a specific place, you must craft and use a horn. Using the horn, you can also alert the entire village. The number of villagers you can enlist in the militia depends on the upgrades to the Eye of Odin, which will receive three new levels with the update. The higher the level, the more militia members you are allowed to support.

Good news for those of us who have struggled with manually adjusting crop seasons. Sand Sailor Studio has introduced a seasonal crop schedule that allows you to set the planting and harvesting times for each field. In my opinion, this should make managing crops less annoying and save time, so we can spend more time exploring a vast Viking land.

The developer has made some changes to cave mechanics and the mining system. The update brings light to caves, as you can now place wall torches in caves and mine in the light, as well as find more valuable resources. Sand Sailor Studio promises a much more challenging fight with the Big Crawler Boss, which you can face while navigating through the caves. Additionally, new iron deposits are located away from the caverns.

Aska also offers additional character customization options, such as hairstyles and tattoos. You need to complete a new level of God Deeds to get access to a different style for your character.

There are two more major updates planned for release later this year, as revealed in a recently published roadmap.
