Half a year after its early access release, CampFire Studios’ sandbox survival game Soulmask is still going strong. The game has recently won the NYX Game Best Survival Game of 2024 award and released the largest update yet, which includes new ways to travel, new mounts, a PvP arena, photo mode, a free DLC, and more.

The biggest new addition, not only in size but also in functionality, is the introduction of the elephant mount. After taming one, players are able to build a base on its back, making it a mobile home. You are able to turn this into a perfect travel home away from home, or construct multiple siege weapons and terrorize others.

In order to get into the holiday spirit early, the developers added a cargo sled that can be pulled by reindeer. But if mounts are not your thing, and you would rather take to the skies yourself, you are in luck. The glider can be crafted and functions as a better, portable version of the ostrich.

This was not the only new craftable item. Players can now attach a lighter and gas canister to their weapons and light them during battle. This creates a flaming blade and deals status effects to any enemy you hit with them. These effects range from lowering defense to reducing the recovery speed of stamina. This is perfect for the honor arena, where you battle against other players to win rewards, or for the new plunderer event and boss they added. Plunderers can be found roaming the land and holding ancient technology for the player to loot once they win. However, winning will not be that easy, as with them is their leader, Shadowblade. Holding a pair of flaming blades herself, she strikes fast and makes use of multiple stealth abilities.

The first DLC has been released, named the Cozy Tribe Decorations Pack. This is a free expansion and adds plants, rugs, a bed, and the Obsidian Construction series, the first new base-building material. Complete with floors, walls, fences, stairs, and more, this cooled volcanic rock has a smooth black shine to it, so be careful when building in a hot area, as it might turn your base into an oven.
