After playing multiple playthroughs with friends, it’s safe to say that State of Decay 2 is fun. There are lots of maps you can explore, and different vehicles and weapons to try, and in greater difficulties running from zombies and fighting them alongside your friends is totally a blast.
There are different types of zombies that shake things up such as juggernauts and ferals, and the common zombies are enough to make fighting them entertaining. There are also zombie nests known as “plague hearts” that are protected by plague zombies, those that can infect the player, creating an urge to craft the cure, though it is very easy to do so.
But besides that, the game is very flawed, and it feels unfinished, as if it was still in a “beta” state.
The game is very buggy, the animations and enemies feel and look stiff, and there’s not enough depth to any part of the game, especially the story, that centers itself around your playstyle, but in an arbitrary and uninteresting manner, which doesn’t lead to rewarding results.
The NPC’s, who are important to the storyline, behave very strangely, and the fights and interactions with them are buggy and a huge mess, they’ll just jump around randomly and get stuck in places.
The game feels repetitive and pointless after some hours of gameplay, although raising the difficulty diminishes this feeling for a while.
Overall, it’s one of those okay games that become very enjoyable to play with friends for a bit, even more if you like the zombie genre, it will be for sure a remarkable experience, but it’s very bad at some aspects, and it makes you wish the game was a bit more refined and better developed, because it has lots and lots of potential.
Here’s something a bit different, State of Decay 2 is a pretty cool zombie survival game where you have to manage a small group of people instead of one character while trying to keep them alive after the world has gone to hell. You move from town to town, search empty houses for supplies, and fight off zombies that never stop coming. But the fighting isn’t the only thing. You also have to build a base, take care of your group and make choices that actually matter. I like how it mixes action and strategy in a way that actually feels fun.
What I like most about State of Decay 2 is how deep it can feel at times. Every little thing you find matters, from a can of food to a new gun. I also like how each person in your group has a story and different traits. Some are brave, some are scared, some cannot stop complaining and some surprise you how capable they are. Building part isn’t that free though. Of course you can choose what you want to build, and you can also add a workshop, garden, medical room or whatever but you are pretty limited in a way that the story takes you to places that will be your new home and each of those places can hold a limited amount of buildings and workshops. Coop is amazing and that is definitely my favorite part. Playing with friends makes looting towns and fighting plague hearts a lot more fun.
But I have to be honest, the game has problems. It still has bugs and weird moments even after updates. Sometimes zombies pop out of nowhere or get stuck in walls. Driving is at times really bad and some cars flip for no reason. Graphics are good but nothing special and after a while the world can feel a bit empty and same. Missions can also get a bit repetitive if you play too long in one go.
Still I had fun with State of Decay 2 and If you like survival games with base building and community focus, this one’s got my vote!
After binging a few seasons of The Walking Dead, I went on an internet quest for a zombie game that would let me step into the post-apocalyptic action and feel like I participate in the show. And guess where I landed? Yep, Don’t pretend you didn’t know, you are already here on the State of Decay 2 page! I see you there!
So, this game elevates the zombie survival genre with its vast open world, rich character management, and diverse zombie types, and you know what, from all types, even the Juggernaut one, I really really hate the Screamer, besides, I hate this one in all zombie games, and why he is always screaming?
Character choice is a delightful slice of State of Decay 2 Juggernaut Edition’s charm. At the beginning, you get to handpick your starting characters, each coming with their unique background stories. It’s like assembling your own ragtag team of apocalypse survivors. The choices range from an ex-convict with a heart of gold to a doctor with a steady hand for patching up wounds.
But here’s the catch: this isn’t just a ‘pick your favorite’ scenario. The game throws surprises your way as more characters join your party during the journey. They could be a grizzled military veteran, a budding chef with a talent for zombie-killing, or even a mysterious loner who’s seen it all.
However, the twist is that just like in the real zombie apocalypse, no one is safe. Permadeath is the name of the game. Your beloved starting characters, the new recruits, heck, even you – if you’re not careful – can meet a grim end at any point. It’s heart-pounding, it’s cruel, and it adds a layer of suspense that’s impossible to ignore. State of Decay 2 delivers an intense survival experience where your choices truly matter, making it all the more immersive and unforgiving.
SoD2 is a challenging game where you have to scavenge, strategize, loots and build your survivor community, and eventually move from a shelter to another, bigger, safer sometimes, and sometimes not that safe, the second one is a little bit tricky, you will see.
While it’s not without some technical quirks and occasional repetitiveness, the sheer scope of the game’s world and the depth of its character interactions make it a compelling experience for fans of the genre.
If you’re looking for an immersive and challenging zombie survival adventure, this is it, plus developers are still updating and adding more and more features.
Zombies and huge mobs gather in one place to ambush players while they are doing missions. This is a fun zombie game that requires players to be skilled and ready to fight.
A good zombie game but not for casual players.
Zombie-based game is perfect and content creators are sponsored from this game and play to increase the volume of the community. The fact it is positive as players enjoy the game at utmost satisfaction and clearly the content is well done and applausible.
I always loved zombies and strategy. Having played the first State of Decay and the second game, when the Juggernaut Edition came out, I was pretty curious to try it out. State of Decay 2 was already a bad-ass tough game, where being able to finish a game without any characters you patiently built up and buffed with a set of good weapons, was already a tough job. But no… they had to release the “Juggernaut” version with even tougher Black Juggernauts (and if a common Juggernaut already grabbed you, your character was literally dead and gone forever), and after a couple of days, your base you just had founded, would be attacked by a massive horde of zombies (think it was like 200) plus not 1 but, a set of Black Juggernauts too. Chances of survival literally none, unless you called up some friend players super buffed but, even this does not prevent your friends’ characters not to die out. So after retrying this eventual invasion 6 times, I actually finally managed to survive, with literally all the friend players characters dead, and with only left 2 characters barely alive.
State of Decay 2 was a really good game but, the Juggernaut edition, which has become like the current version you will get of State of Decay 2, is simply too much and damn frustrating.
Its a decent attempt on Zombie Survival Genre in 3rd person shooter format, it definitely demands more of your attention to do so many tasks as you go on with the storyline. It’s not my cup of tea.
You have to really love Survival genre to play this game.
As a fan of the first state of decay, I was pretty hyped about this game. But this feels like a shell of what the first game was.
The big new feature was an infested area with these new types of zombies.
You start with a small group of survivors and defend a location that will later become one of your many base locations. You can go out in the world scavenge buildings and bring back the loot to upgrade the different stations around your camp. Survivors will become tired or beaten up by the zombies so you have to switch out to a new character every once in a while. Because you control multiple survivors this means there is also a permadeath feature. So don’t try to get to attached to one character or don’t level up only one character because when they meet their fate you can no longer play as them.
The story of State of Decay 2 is nothing to write home about and in comparison to the first game, it is really short. It does not help that 80% of the story is to clear infected areas.
The core gameplay is still the same as the first game, which is good but without the story to break up the pace, you get bored really fast since the only thing that is left to do is loot homes and smash zombie’s skulls with a car door.
