    Good looking rimworld lite

    • Pros
    • Engaging survival gameplay mechanics
    • Flexible difficulty settings available
    • User-friendly interface design
    • Immersive atmospheric graphics and sound
    • Potential for future expansions
    • Cons
    • Steep learning curve initially
    • Feels incomplete in some areas
    • Resource management can be tedious
    • Limited variety in alien creatures
    • Occasional minor technical glitches

“Stranded: Alien Dawn” is one of those games that sneaks up on you. At first, you think, “Oh, another survival sim,” but it quickly shows it’s got more going for it. You start with a small group of survivors crash-landed on an alien planet, and it’s up to you to keep them alive and thriving.

The game stands out because it nails the essentials of the genre while streamlining some of the clunkier parts from similar games. Managing resources, building shelters, and defending against alien creatures is both fun and challenging. The flexibility in difficulty settings is a big plus – you can choose a more laid-back experience with docile alien insects or crank up the challenge for a real test of your survival skills.

Visually, it’s appealing without being mind-blowing, but it gets the job done. The graphics and sound design create an immersive atmosphere that pulls you into the experience. The UI is pretty user-friendly, which is great because there’s a lot to keep track of.

One thing to note is that while the game is polished, it feels like it’s laying the groundwork for more. It’s a strong start, but you can tell there’s potential for future updates and expansions to really flesh it out.

Overall, if you’re into colony sims and survival games, “Stranded: Alien Dawn” is definitely worth checking out. It’s engaging, challenging, and has a lot of promise. Just be ready for a bit of a learning curve, but once you get into it, it’s hard to put down.

Stranded: Alien Dawn is part RimWorld and part tower defense game, with colony survival elements. It can be called 3D Rimworld like game. Keep a small group of colonists alive on an alien planet while facing food shortages, alien attacks, harsh weather, diseases, and personality conflicts. But what it does good with that standard setup is generating amazing stories of disaster, survival and genuine rescues. It deserves a chance!

Stranded: Alien Dawn: A Brave New World
    8

If you are looking for a new planet survival sim, then this may be just the thing for you. From the moment you step on the mysterious planet, you’re engaged in a struggle for survival against the harsh elements and the unknown creatures that inhabit this alien world.

Something that stands out about this game is its stunning visuals and atmospheric soundtrack, and with this combination, every step you take feels like a leap into the unknown, with danger lurking around every corner and adventure waiting to be discovered.

But survival in “Stranded: Alien Dawn” is not just about avoiding danger, it’s much more than that. You’ll need to scavenge for resources, build shelters, and craft tools if you hope to stand a chance against the planet’s unforgiving environment and save your colony. The game offers a deep and engaging crafting and building system that allows you to create everything from survival basics to advanced technology, giving you the tools you need to thrive in this alien world.

But perhaps the most compelling aspect of Stranded: Alien Dawn is its sense of immersion. Whether you’re building your base, hunting for food, or fending off hostile creatures, every action you take feels meaningful and impactful. But that is not all, not only do you have to protect your colony from hostile creatures, but you also need to protect it from starvation, diseases, extreme weather, and much more. Because of this, you will be pulled into the game, and be on the edge of your seat as you fight for survival against all odds.

Even though I really like and recommend this game, I have to say one thing that bothers me the most, and that is NPC’s AI. For example, sometimes you’ll have trained soldiers running scarred from small creatures, or people sitting comfortably in the fire being depressed as they are scarred of dying from hypothermia.

All in all, Stranded: Alien Dawn is a great choice for anyone looking for an immersive and challenging planet survival sim.

    A good colony management game
    9

Headline: A good colony management game, which evolves the RimWorld proposal.

The learning curve is within the norm, if you are used to this type of games. You will find the normal elements of any colony management game:

    – Investigation
    – Resource management
    – Agriculture and Livestock
    – Construction and Manufacturing
    – Defense of the colony
    – Expeditions as special events
    – Colon survival: food, clothing, entertainment, rest, healing, etc.
    – Distribution of jobs and schedules

I especially like the psychology of the settlers. Whichever four you choose at the beginning, you will have strengths and disadvantages, and it will be difficult to find a balance. The stronger a settler is in one aspect, the greater the disadvantage they have. And each one has specific needs, so you have to be very aware of each one’s happiness. You also have to pay attention to personal relationships. You assemble a team that seems balanced, only to discover that they hate each other. The management of the settlers’ time and tasks is well planned.

In terms of colony defense, it has the usual wave system that increases in difficulty. And when creating the world, you can choose (at this time) between 4 moons that will make the difficulty of the waves more progressive or more random.
Graphically it is very successful and the music does not become heavy. If you like Rim World and the like, this game will hook you.

In summary, the game is well planned, it has no visible bugs, the mechanics are well done, the disasters and attacks are well balanced.

I have three colonies, and only the third has survived the first year. As always, finding the balance between having enough food, investigating, defending yourself, and having adequate spaces/buildings is the most complicated and is taking me a little more time than I expected to achieve. And I love that.

A different take on tower defense games
    8
    • Pros
    • Immersive gameplay
    • Many different characters to play with
    • Good base building
    • Cons
    • Alien wildlife a bit limited
    • A bit difficult for those new to the genre

Stranded: Alien Dawn takes on a new approach to the tower defense genre. Survive, become self-sufficient, and fight off waves of aliens trying to make you their lunch. Research and crafting is integral to your colonists’ survival. A very good game for people who love the genre. A definite must-have.

    New alien game

I have yet, despite 500+ hours played (or paused 😉), to complete a playthrough! It’s not for any other reason than I like to see how the different sets of survivors interact and how their skills work with each other.

One of the times, I had a young man and his grandma on the same set of survivors. I did not expect that they would end up to be enemies. But they did! It was hilarious.

I have also learned that my penchant for loading up a massive base right away does not work well in this game. With just four survivors to start with, you really have to plan out what you’re going to do, when, and with what priority in order to do well at the beginning.

So basically, I’ve been having a grand time replaying the beginnings over and over to see if I could do better. Also, since it has random map seeds, you can play a different location each time. You also have the option to type in any seeds you want to. So if you hit on one you like, you can always type it back in again.

I have been naming my game saves the same as the map seeds. That way, if I ever do feel like being a cheater, I can go back and replay the same map again. This way also I can try to pick up where I left off on some of my previous games if I want to.

Before getting this, I tried to play Dwarf Fortress. The idea of it sounded amazing but it was just so ugly I couldn’t do it. But this is pretty nice. The graphics are beautiful, it’s deep enough, it’s not as full of depth and complexity as Dwarf Fortress, but it is very good. And it is not butt ugly, like Dwarf Fortress is. I vastly prefer Stranded.

I also appreciate that the game comes already set up with excellent in-game descriptions and tips on everything, so I don’t spend time reading online. It’s actually one of my favorite things about the experience so far. It reminds me of the old days, when I could just play a game and learn while playing. Learning stuff on your own can be a lot of fun!

It’s also nice that it has various difficulty levels and scenarios you can work with. If you’re looking just a kick back, you can. If you’re looking to survive a nightmare, you can. At least you can try. If you want to help them escape, you can. If you want to play so that they want to buy the whole planet, you can.

I like that flexibility. It’s nice. And I’m really enjoying this game. I highly recommend it.

A worth purchase if you are into survival games!
    8

This was a fun survival game with a great style and theme. The first few runs ended in some silly game-overs that were self-inflicted, but as the game continued it became much easier, so much so that I would say after about 50 hours of time under the belt beating the game on some of the higher difficulties became rather trivial. However, the game comes with a few different modes with varied objectives to spice things up, which was greatly appreciated.

Base design is based on a grid system which somewhat limits creativity, and while you can make some impressive things I found myself finding an optimal build plan and sticking to that after a while.

Definitely worth a purchase if you are into survival games!
