Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon is an open world first person RPG similar to Skyrim, but with a darker setting. The story is set in the Arthurian legends but with some twits and darker details, actually the game is based in the table top game of the same name and company, but moved to digital version, so everybody can enjoy it, no need of a physical version, and I personally prefer it this way.

I make a special note for the music, that is using Danheim’s viking famous music, get ready for some banger tracks during fights

And well the gameplay is the usual, you at start have no idea of what is going on, start doing missions for the NPCs, explore the world, get better equipment etc. The map is huge with lots of secret places, dungeons, missions, NPCs, enemies and secrets to unveil. Game has fast travel and even a horse, but it is not necessary.

They are gonna add a feature, that on nights the ‘wyrdness’ will spread so nights will be very dangerous, can’t wait to test this one. Of course you have crafting, cooking, lots of spells, weapons, armour sets etc

Character creation is very basic at the moment, just a few faces and hairstyles but they promised more will be added at full release, but after all, the game is 1st person, you only see your character on inventory screen, so that is not a big problem

The game is still in early access and needs some polishing but the overall experience is more than satisfying, and now it runs better than when it released, that oh well, it was not ok by then.

Can’t wait for the full release and play it all because the game is the kind of game I love and I know it will be super fun when it finally is finished

    Skyrim in dark fantasy!
    7
    • Pros
    • Impressive graphics and ambient
    • Interesting lore and story in dark fantasy
    • Nice way of combining magic and weapons
    • a relatively large world to explore
    • Cons
    • Some FPS problems with the distance view (or needs better graphic card than my RTX 2070)
    • A bit of an empty world (NPCs)

I think this game clearly gets too little attention. It offers a creepy and ancient fantasy ambience and also has some Skyrim vibes here and there, which is why this game caught my eye. At first, I only knew the developer’s card deck game and was very happy to find an RPG of this kind. The developers are constantly working on new updates and fixes, which shows me that they are keeping the game alive and well.

I did find the combat a little difficult in some aspects, you have to work on your own mechanics a little to get along well, especially with multiple enemies, because depending on whether you play on magic or stamina you have to act accordingly. For example, if you block a lot in battle, you lose a lot of stamina and you’re quickly out of breath, if you use magic you always have to drink a lot of potions to be able to cast magic accordingly. Sometimes you can also work out a mechanic with the controls themselves, when you walk away from the enemy and wait for the right moment to strike. The game may still seem unfinished in many respects, but it is already very easy to play. You can steal and be a thief, throw fireballs around as a mage or shoot headshots as an archer to do more damage and so on. – It’s up to you how you play!

I’m not very far along in this game yet, because it doesn’t run very well with my graphics card (RTX 2070) in terms of distance and this often leads to FPS drops for me, but what I was already able to see in the starting area, like the first combat impressions, the collecting and extensive looting (there is really a lot to collect, that I was overloaded even after the tutorial – to sell everything) and the environment and design of the open world as well as the caves. The implementation with the cave entry is again such a small point that reminded me of Skyrim, which I find positive. It took me hours to get to the first quest location with the peaceful NPCs, because I got lost through the inviting world and wanted to see more and more and even had to hold back! And that’s saying something in terms of exploration – there’s really a lot to see that looks interesting.

I really hope that others will also recognize the potential of this game!
