While Seikyu has an interesting setting, with the main character being one of two Kitsune left (allegedly), there’s too little story to actually utilize it as of June 2025. The main detriment of Seikyu in its current state is being incomplete. The sprite/character artwork is gorgeous, but the in game models look a little washed out, and although being able to transform into different youkai is interesting, I don’t often see the point in doing so outside of farming. That being said, I’m giving it some grace on the basis that it is in early access, and these points will probably be polished in updates to come.
Tales of Seikyu is a well-crafted game that offers a pleasant experience for fans of story-driven RPGs. It strikes a good balance between accessibility and depth, with appealing visuals and a solid soundtrack. While it may not reinvent the genre or surprise players at every turn, it provides a fulfilling adventure for those looking for a delightful, straightforward role-playing experience. Hope for some updates to enhance the experience.
