The Gold River Project is preparing to enter Early Access, with the development team revealing their plans at launch and beyond. Ever since I saw this a few months ago, I couldn’t WAIT for more information and gameplay. I’m stoked for this game, giving me The Forest vibes. Let’s get our hiking boots on and take a look at what’s under the canopy of pine trees.
The Gold River Project is an exploration-driven camping survival game set in a vast private nature reserve in the Pacific Northwest. After being abandoned during a remote camping expedition that slowly reveals itself as a controlled experiment, you need to venture alone or in online co-op with up to four friends, managing survival needs, crafting equipment, and adapting to evolving seasons. As you explore, you uncover environmental puzzles, shifting points of interest, and clues behind a mysterious barrier and the forces monitoring your escape.
According to the developers, Early Access represents a traditional development phase rather than a near-complete release. The version arriving in Early Access will be fully playable but unfinished, with core systems, progression, and atmosphere in place while additional content and polish continue during development.

At launch, players can expect an exploration-focused adventure survival experience without the two-day time limit that was present in the demo. The Early Access build will feature improved multiplayer functionality, expanded areas to explore, and the Summer and Fall portions of the game world. New points of interest, seasonal challenges, and additional in-game lore will also be included.
The developers emphasized that Early Access will not be a complete or bug-free experience. Technical issues and balancing adjustments are expected, and player feedback will play a central role in shaping ongoing updates. Several planned features, including additional NPCs, new sub-stations, and certain seasonal content, will be added gradually and may not be available until the game reaches version 1.0.
Alongside the Early Access announcement, the team shared an official roadmap outlining major future updates. While specific plans may change, the developers stated they will communicate any adjustments ahead of time.

The demo version of The Gold River Project will remain available after the Early Access release. It will continue to receive optimization updates only and is intended to allow players to test performance and compatibility before purchasing the game.
Early Access for The Gold River Project is scheduled to launch on January 23 on Steam, marking a new stage of development as the team continues to expand and refine the experience.
