The Last Caretaker is moving into a new stage with Update 03, Curiosity Wakes, in which, for the first time, players can make contact with humanity’s orbital haven through the new Council of Humanity and committee system, giving the story a clearer link between the work on the surface and the people now living in space.
Ram Sharks, Laser Sharks, and ArchAngels are now part of the world, and the developers say enemy behavior has been adjusted to make combat feel more deliberate and less predictable. That should make each encounter more demanding, especially for players who have already learned how to handle the game’s harsher survival loop. New quests and locations also broaden the map, with fresh areas such as the Shark Research Area, the Rollerboi Factory, and Shark Containment adding more places to explore.
Players can now unlock and craft new friendly systems, including the Sweetheart grenade and the craftable Sweetheart item, alongside a new friendly swarm type companions. The update also adds Field Escort and Localized Intervention Sphere systems, which should give players more options when they need help in the field. It is a useful change for a game where every resource and every mistake can matter.
The Curiosity Wakes update does more than expand combat and story. It brings new tools and building parts into the mix, including the Dehumidifier, CO2 storage containers, the Boat Stabilizer, Farming Bed V2, and a buildable Mooring Socket. Customization has grown too, with new ores, nuggets, and pigments that unlock more Caretaker paint options. These additions aim to give players more freedom to shape both their base and their character.
The developers also made some performance improvements, as optimization has been one of the biggest concerns for many players since The Last Caretaker’s Early Access release.
