Voidtrain: Ride the Rails of the Surreal!
    7
    • Pros
    • Original and mysterious universe
    • Multiple floating dimensions
    • Dimensional trains
    • Graphic atmosphere inspired by Salvador Dalí (in my opinion)
    • Varied gameplay (Management, survival, crafting...)
    • Each station brings new surprises and challenges
    • Cons
    • A bit repetitive at times
    • Some mechanics lack a bit of depth

What if one day you found yourself thrown into a universe where floating trains travel through unknown and dangerous dimensions? Your role? A mystery. Your goal? To survive, explore these surreal worlds, and transform your train into a flying fortress worthy of the wildest tales. Does that sound exciting? Then, without further ado, let’s hop aboard, gear up, check the forge, and set off on an extraordinary rail adventure!

In Voidtrain, you play as a mechanic who, after passing through an interdimensional portal, is thrust into a mysterious and floating universe following a strange event. Your only companion on this journey is a rudimentary train that travels through dimensions where the laws of physics seem to have taken a vacation. You gradually uncover the secrets of this universe, where the past seems to blend with the future, probably after World War II, while trying to survive against hostile creatures and unpredictable environments. The story, steeped in mystery, plunges you into a survival quest where each new station and each fragment of history discovered enhances the immersion in this surreal world, reminiscent of Salvador Dalí’s dreamlike works. The game’s graphic style and atmosphere evoke paintings with floating landscapes, improbable structures, and an eerie mood where reality and imagination merge.

The gameplay in Voidtrain is a great mix of exploration, survival, and crafting. Aboard your flying train, you spend your time diving into the void around the tracks to collect anything you can find: metal, wood, and plenty of other useful materials. With these, you can upgrade your train, add wagons, or craft weapons to defend yourself against unfriendly creatures. Sometimes, the combat gets intense, and you need to defend your train while continuing your adventure. Every station you pass through brings its own surprises, good or bad, which makes the journey really exciting.

The graphics in Voidtrain are really beautiful and captivating. The universe is a blend of realistic and completely bizarre, with floating landscapes, vibrant colors, and an almost surreal atmosphere. Each dimension you travel through has its own visual style, which keeps exploration always interesting. The details of the train, creatures, and environments clearly show the care taken in the game’s creation. It’s not the most photorealistic game, but the artistic style perfectly fits the mysterious and quirky atmosphere of the concept. It’s the kind of graphics that make you want to stop and just look around.

Despite its qualities, Voidtrain can sometimes become repetitive when it comes to resource gathering, and some mechanics, like combat or train management, lack a bit of depth, which could frustrate players looking for more variety.

So, ready to embark on this interdimensional rail adventure? The tracks await you, and a multitude of mysteries are waiting to be discovered. All that’s left to do is climb aboard, start the engines, and let the train take you on a journey you won’t soon forget!

A journey into the unknown: Void Train
    7

Void Train has a cool survival concept with trains as moveable bases that take players on an otherworldly journey through a surreal space landscape. The game’s visual are pretty aesthetic and unique, it perfectly captures the essence of some fantastical realm where the ordinary and the extraordinary meets.

The gameplay mechanics are very interesting, you have an awesome train which you use as a base and with it you explore a vast world while also keeping an eye on a delicate balance of resource management and strategic decision-making. As you travel the void, you must fight against the environment and its challenges and some mysterious creatures. The crafting system is really thought out, and it adds a certain depth to the game, providing a sense of progression as you upgrade and customize your gaming experience.

Something that I like about the game is its ability to keep you interested by letting you explore and discover new things. The void is full of mysteries and materials to discover and collect, so you should be always on the move and keeping a lookout for new encounters and opportunities.

However, since it is an early access game, there’s still room for improvement. At first the game can be a bit overwhelming and difficult, especially with enemies being able to hit you even when you are behind the cover due to certain bugs, or it may seem at a time too grindy or slow, but as it is still in early access this is normal.

In summary, it is a great game that takes you on a stunning journey into the unknown. The devs are very active, they listen to the community and give regular feedback and updates in order to make the best game there is. Also, did I forget to mention? It is a coop game, so go ahead and get your crew and step into the unknown.

    Raft but in space
    10
    • Pros
    • Looks good, stylized, but I like it.
    • Similar to Raft, mechanically, but different enough to not be samey.
    • It has great potential.
    • Only played for a couple of hours but no bugs, which for a game only a couple of hours old is impressive (though apparently it's been out for awhile on Epic games, which will be addressed in cons)
    • Cons
    • Allegedly the developers did an exclusivity deal with Epic, and I think by now everyone knows how the Epic Store is to a healthy market what a throbbing tumor is to a healthy body.... though lacking the charm or moral fiber.
    • Research 'tree' is not a tree. It's a line, at least as far as I played. There is no chance to prioritize early, it's just do A then B then C etc. No choice to focus building a cooking station before containers for example, hoping this is less of a problem later in game but first impressions wise, it's not good.
    • Apparently you need to use Epic Games services for multiplayer (haven't tried it yet) this is more of a result of being built in Unreal I suspect, which seems like more of a reason to not use Unreal to build your game.
    • Also, apparently if you get dc'd or leave the multiplayer game, you lose all items, I can't confirm or deny at this point, but if true, needs to be fixed immediately because that is enough to kill a game focused on resource gathering (This however was supposedly hotfixed today (10/05/23), so if that's fixed, it's a good start).

Ok, I’ve seen the reviews on this and they seem to be pretty polarizing. I’ll try to be as fair and balanced as possible having played it for a couple of hours.

    Game Released Delayed
    2
    • Cons
    • Game is delayed
    • Taking longer than before
    • Players are impatient about this fact...

This game was supposed to be released early, but the game was delayed and became “To Be Announced” on Steam. This makes me angry about this…

    Travel To Worlds
    9
    • Pros
    • Special game content
    • Graphics are updated to a good standard
    • Gameplay is fun and interesting

Unique game idea showing the train traveling to different dimensions to survive and make materials to further improve the train system and making it way better than in the beginning. Players can play with a team and make their dream train come true which is used to help players travel from one point to another.
