“It’s alive!!” Dr. Frankenstein yelled when he was able to harness the power of lightning to bring his creature to life. And now you too can use the power of electricity to tackle your mechanical foes.
In case you did not know, Volcanoid has just released the Tesla Update. One of the things I always felt was lacking in the Volcanoids game was a wide variety of weapons, and many mods out there have been adding to the arsenal you’re able to bring with you on your Steam-powered Drill Ship.
The Tesla Update brings several new electricity-powered weapons to assist you in dismantling the COGS. The first of two weapons you are able to bring with you is the Tesla Cannon, which is able to shoot beams of electricity at several foes at once, dealing continued damage for as long as your batteries hold out. Not only can it be used offensively, but it also excels at defensive capabilities as well, as it is able to shoot down enemy projectiles, and you are also able to use it as an energy shield to protect you from incoming enemy fire.
Next on the list is the Tesla Rifle. The Tesla Rifle is able to run a gun, as it shoots quick zaps of electricity to stun smaller enemies, like the drones and the humanoid COGS. Though you can still use the Tesla Rifle to shoot enemy projectiles out of the air, it takes much more skill as the shots are more focused.
The new Tesla handheld weapons use the new Tesla Ammo batteries, which can be recharged using the armor station.
When you’re out and about bringing the fight to the COGS, sometimes a few can slip by and attack your drill ship. So now, with your newfound Tesla technology, you can incorporate that into ship defenses to enter the Tesla Turret. Like the Tesla Rifle, it will attack enemies with quick zaps of power, stunning them. With them being able to be placed on the roof or sides of your drill ship, you will be able to make your ship a formidable base indeed. And once you’re able to unlock the true potential of the Tesla Turret, Tier 2, you will be able to light up several targets at once.

In the last update, they introduced the Drone Turrets. Now, with your new harnessed power, you can incorporate the technology into your turret drones, making them Tesla Turret Drones. Drop them around your drill ship as an instant defense, and watch them bring the pain to your enemies.
Necessity is the mother of invention, So what do we do once the enemy is inside your Drill Ship? Prepare by placing traps. Duh! And those traps will be the mini-Tesla turrets; these small buggers can be placed on the ground and even in the wall sockets.
Now, with all these new Tesla weapons, what about some love for some of the other weapons? What better way to destroy mechanical foes than with EMP Grenades and Mortars? With these enhanced items, you will be able to disable enemies of all sizes, and they are perfect for disabling enemy tanks and disabling enemy turrets while raiding their drill ships.
The scoped Sniper rifle is also seeing an upgrade with the Anti-Material Sniper ammo; this new ammo packs a much bigger punch, allowing you to deal increased damage to the COG Tanks and modules. You will even be able to take out enemy turrets from afar while your friends are moving in.
You are not the only one with these new weapons, as the COGS will also be employing this technology against you.
And finally, there are numerous other fixes that have been added, along with three new Steam Achievements:
Grounded: Destroy a large drone with your pickaxe.
Funko COG: Pick up a collectible hidden somewhere on the island.
Hot Tub: Kill a large drone by making it fall into a lava pool.
So now, go forth with this newfound knowledge and bring the fight to the COGS.
What’s your favorite Tesla accessory that was added to the game? Let me know in the comments below.
