Voyages of Nera sails into the holiday season with a new content drop. The update centers on a complete overhaul of boats, Spirit Companions, abilities, and play modes, alongside a wide range of changes.
Boats are no longer just a means of transport. They have been redesigned as fully buildable, modular spaces that function as mobile bases. Players can now assemble ships from interchangeable hulls, sails, bows, outriggers, and structures, all unlocked through the Knowledge Tree. Sails can be placed freely, and additional sails increase speed up to a defined cap. Hulls now differ in health and speed, and overall boat durability has been increased, with stronger Patch Kits to support repairs. Boats can also host crafting stations, decorative items, and functional structures, all governed by a dedicated build volume and build limits.
Several new boat-specific stations expand gameplay possibilities. These include cannons that can damage enemies or launch allies, spirit-powered devices that boost speed, a rudder control station that centralizes navigation, and a Mariner’s Mat that allows resting and respawning at sea. Boats that reach zero health now sink rather than disappearing. Players can dive to recover items and revive vessels using Surfacing Glyphs, though sunken boats will be lost permanently if not recovered within an hour.
Character progression has also been reworked through the introduction of Elemental Paths and expanded Spirit Companions. Attuning to an element grants a companion that gains experience alongside the player. As companions level up, players choose from traits and stat bonuses, allowing for more specialized builds. Each Elemental Path supports multiple archetypes and subclasses, encouraging customization through mixed traits and abilities.
Abilities have been rebalanced around a new Mana system. Spells can be cast more frequently but consume mana, which must be regenerated through items, abilities, or environmental effects. Abilities now interact with elemental keywords, enabling synergies based on a player’s chosen path. New abilities have also been added, and existing ones have been adjusted to be more impactful.

The patch also introduces Primordial Trials, a new encounter type focused on skill-based challenges such as gliding, skimming, and marksmanship. Completing these trials rewards Primordial Motes, a rare resource required to advance along Elemental Paths.
Outside of core gameplay, the update adds Single Player mode with pause functionality, offline play support, and Steam Cloud Saves. Single Player characters created while connected to Steam can transition into multiplayer, while fully offline characters remain isolated. Together, these changes significantly alter progression, exploration, and flexibility in how the game can be played.
Seeing all these changes, Voyagers of Nera’s Ships and Spirits update brings many additions and may be worth returning to the game just before the holiday season begins.
