What’s worse than a wizard with a fireball wand? A wizard with a 45-caliber gun with incendiary ammo, that’s what!
Galvanic Games is a small indie studio that likes to refer to itself as “an indie studio in the heart of downtown Seattle making kick-ass games!” And I think they are living up to that moniker with the first demo release of their new game, Wizard with a Gun.
Wizard with a Gun is an online cooperative sandbox survival game set in a magical wilderness known as the Shatter, wrought with dangerous creatures and arcane mysteries.
Do not get lulled into a false sense of security by its cute hand-drawn graphics, frolicking cat-type creatures, and melodious Arcana-Western soundtrack. At its heart, it is still a survival game.
You start off in your tower in the Shatterlands, a broken world slowly being invaded by chaos. Everything is broken, even the very world itself, and in need of repair. You collect resources by punching or shooting objects in an almost entirely destructible environment. With these resources, you will slowly repair your tower, but you will quickly run out of resources in your tower and will need to venture out by using The Wheel, which will reset the world and allow you access to The Gate, a procedurally generated world with a 5-minute timer. But before you leave, you will need to craft a wooden gun before heading out.
Once you enter the gate, your timer is counting down as you explore and gather what resources you can find while fending off local fauna and bandit wizards. As your timer counts down, more chaos rifts will open, sending more chaos monsters out until the world is destroyed, so grab what you can and return to the tower via The Gate.

Back at the tower, you will use your hard-earned resources to research additional weapons and bullet types, such as incendiary bullets, frost bullets, potions, and even more outfits for your wizard.
The demo comes to an end after you defeat the first boss, though you can continue to venture forth and take down rival gunslingers, collecting higher-tier loot.
This demo only offers singleplayer but the full game will have co-op so you can play with up to four of your friends to explore all the other biomes, collect resources to make even more complicated crafting recipes, and face off against even more dastardly enemies.
So, give the demo a go on Steam and prepare for the Wizard With A Gun to unload on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC later this year.
