During Minecraft Live 2022 we got our first look at what is to come to the blocky survival game Minecraft. Get ready for new blocks, mobs, and a lot more!

New building blocks

Bamboo will become the big new building material in the upcoming 1.20 update. You will now be able to craft them not only into blocks. There will be a door, half slabs, fences, and even a special version of the block. This mosaic bamboo as it is called has four cubes on each side and will most likely be crafted with four bamboo blocks. It will also be able to create a raft from the bamboo you harvest. It is pretty much a reskin of the typical wooden boat. Just like its plank cousin, you can also put a chest on the raft and it will hold up to two players or mobs.

A new hanging sign was shown which looks a bit different from a regular sign. This one will hang from a chain and can be placed in three different ways that will make it feel pretty unique to the basic wood sign. It will come in any wood color there is in the game. There will be a new bookcase added to Minecraft in which you can store one to six books or enchanted books. Unlike your typical bookcase, this new one only shows the books on one side. This case will provide you with a Redstone signal so you can make hidden entrances in your library. 

New Mobs

Camels are the new ridable mob that is getting added to the game. You’ll need a saddle for this animal in order to ride it. You can travel on it with two people. The camel will also have a unique ability called the dash. Using this you can jump forward really quick and cross ravines with ease. When riding on one of these large beasts enemies like the zombies will not be able to hit you because the camels are so tall (and they only want you and not your animal companion for some reason). 

Every year Mojang likes to hold a community vote. This year you were able to vote between three new mobs and the winner would be added to the game. The options were, the Sniffer, This ancient turtle would be hatched from an egg you find in the ocean. When hatched the Sniffer will dig in the dirt looking for rare seeds which the player can plant. The Rascal is a mob that likes to play hide and seek, finding him three times will reward you with a random item. And last is the Tuff golem, which is a living statue. You can give it an item to hold and he will only move every once in a while. The winner of this year’s vote was the Sniffer with an overwhelming 55% vote. (Rascal was second and tuff golem third)

Minecraft x Batman DLC

Minecraft brings your favorite DC superhero Batman to the game as DLC. This content comes with new skins, custom gadgets, and an explorable map. Solve the puzzles around Gotham and repair the nether portal to take on Batman’s biggest enemy the Joker and others.
This DLC is available right now in the Minecraft marketplace.
