Ladybug Mount Set to Arrive in Grounded 2 This Winter

Not only will new creatures appear, but some classic foes will also return.

Developers at Obsidian Entertainment have just revealed that Grounded 2 will soon receive a major update, bringing the next location, new creatures, and finally, the long-awaited ladybug buggy.

The winter update adds a community garden right next to the picnic area players have already explored. The garden is split into three parts: a vegetable patch, a greenhouse, and a pumpkin field.

The garden changes the feel of the park. Where the picnic area was a callback to the backyard of the first game, the garden leans into places people expect in a real park. Paths, planters and garden beds create clear landmarks, while scale plays a big role. Players will once again get that small person in a large world feeling as they ride insects and look across huge vistas.

Combat and enemy design get an update too, as the team describes a rework they call Combat Dance 2.0 that adjusts how insects fight and how players approach battles. Some classic foes return, including wasps and black ants, and new enemies arrive. The cricket is one of the new additions. It moves like a large leaper and can cover ground quickly. Earwigs show up in two varieties that work together to challenge players. As with other creatures in the series, insects can be turned into armor, base items, and weapons after you defeat them.

For years players have wanted a rideable ladybug and the developers say it felt like an inevitable choice. Unlike previous buggies, the ladybug fills a tank role. It can absorb attacks, draw enemy attention and help clear swarms. It also carries a water cannon that lets riders shoot at aerial foes and other threats from a distance. The mechanic adds a new play loop where you must manage the buggy’s fuel or water supply, decide when to dismount and fight on foot, and plan routes to refill.

Obsidian Entertainment emphasized that Grounded 2 aims to welcome players new to survival games while still offering depth for veterans. The picnic area leaned toward being more approachable, and the garden appears to push the challenge up a notch. Developers said they intend to test these changes with players in early access and adjust based on feedback.

This winter update arrives as part of the team’s ongoing plan to expand the game through major free updates. The studio compares the process to building a theme park where players who join early get new sections as they open. That model is meant to keep the community together rather than splitting it with paid expansions.

The update also includes harvestable materials, new base options and gameplay systems designed to make exploration and survival more varied. The studio has left room to tweak features after release and to consider what future buggies might look like once the community weighs in. For players who have wanted a rideable ladybug and a denser, more survival focused zone, this update could be the moment they have been waiting for.
