Above Snakes Reveals the New Desert Biome and Enemies

Dynamite throwing skeletons have been spotted in the wastelands.

Developers Square Glade Games have released more details about their upcoming world-building survival game Above Snakes. We got a look at a new desert biome, enemies, and quests.

The start of the game

The beginning of the game got a significant overhaul. For those who played the demo of Above Snakes during the Steam Next Fest, you may have noticed you were thrown into the world and had to figure everything out yourself. Now a tutorial has been added. The game starts on a unique tile called “Hunter’s Rest” a western-styled village where the protagonist stays the night. During your stay, a meteor crashes into town and you help them rebuild. There are a few wounded villagers you need to get bandages for. While trying to apply it some of them suddenly turn into the living dead and start attacking you. This new tutorial teaches the player how the game works and is a nice introduction to how the zombie infection started.

The desert biome and enemies

We also got a preview of the desert biome. After wrapping up the farmland quest line you journey towards this new location where you find a wounded lone gunman named Mr. Jones. When you fix up his wounds he tells you what happened and you find out zombies are not the only supernatural beings on earth. You set out to an abandoned military camp to find more clues and defeat this new evil. When exploring you find three watch towers protected by skeleton enemies that wield different weapons. Some will throw dynamite, some will use a machete and others will use guns. When dynamite explodes near other skeletons it will deal damage to them. In the new update, enemy attacks have been slowed down to make dodging them a lot easier.

A quest journal has been added and will allow you to filter which quests you see on the screen at any given time. Cloud saves have been implemented as well and an upcoming beta test has been teased but no date has been given yet.
