Following this year’s June release, Aska, a Viking-themed survival and city-building game, has been well-received by players who enjoy city management, strategy, and survival genres. Developer Sand Sailor Studio has recently published its first major update, introducing custom world settings, new buildings, and additional features.
Now, when starting the game, you can choose between Normal mode or a customized world to match your playstyle. Custom settings allow you to control invasions, weather, landscapes, and wildlife. You can turn invasions off or make them harder, decide how often storms occur, and adjust the number of animals and monsters. You can also modify the terrain to shape the landscape.
Wall building is now easier with new wall angles that automatically adjust to the terrain, making it smoother to place walls and saving you time, which makes construction more enjoyable. You can also upgrade walls with spiked barricades, adding extra defense to your base.

Aska now features new buildings, including a metal part collector, an outhouse, and a beauty pit. Compost, an additional resource for farming, is produced at the outhouse to improve your crops. Workers recycle broken metal gears in the metal part collector, allowing you to reuse them rather than crafting new ones, saving resources. The Beauty Pit is used to change your character’s appearance.
Sand Sailor Studio has also improved AI, particularly in villager behavior, to make them easier to manage and understand. Villagers will no longer get stuck in longhouses or behind destructible walls in cave corridors. They will also no longer teleport to shore from their boats or sleep under their beds.
With the update, random invasions such as Blood Moon events, wolf attacks, and Smolkr raids will scale based on how many villagers you have and how long you’ve been playing. Early on, invasions will be easier, but as your village expands, the enemy raids will grow stronger, making defense more critical.
Sand Sailor Studio has scheduled Aska updates Two, Three, and Four for release throughout the rest of 2024, which will bring new enemies, raids, dedicated server support, combat upgrade, and much more.
