Donkey Crew has released more details about the crafting system for their upcoming survival city-builder Bellwright. We got a look at what the early game will look like and a glimpse into the late game.
Cooking is an essential part of the crafting process, as you will need to keep your villagers fed so they can do a lot of the bulk work. Initially, you start with a simple recipe like the roasting of mushrooms, which provides a very low nutrition boost to you and your villagers. However, as the player progresses through the game, they will unlock various ingredients and recipes to create more nutritious and sustainable food for the settlement. This will go hand in hand with the hunting skill, as you will be able to hunt rabbits and other animals for their meat.
The crafting system will also be used to create tools, armor, and weapons for you and your population. To start you will need a simple workbench, this is where you will spend most of your time crafting everything you will need to start your own city, provided you have the necessary resources.

Once you have a few villagers, you can start letting them do some of the heavy lifting. You can set them to craft weapons and tools by creating an order with the “Manage” tab. You can select the item you want and set the order to “One-off”. By selecting this option, they will only finish what you instructed them to make. Choosing “Top-off” is handy for items you often need, like arrows. For example, if you tell them to keep 100 arrows in the chest, anytime the number gets lower than the amount you want, the villagers will automatically craft more, as long as you have the necessary resources.
As you progress through Bellwright’s skill tree, the crafting process becomes more complex. So you want to automate as many resources as possible as you will need them during the late game.
