Bellwright Reveals New Details About Combat Mechanics

Take charge of your villager soldiers and conquer the land!

Bellwright, the upcoming survival town management game by Donkey Crew Games, is set in a harsh medieval setting where you must survive, build an army, and take out the ruthless monarchy. Combat is going to be at the forefront of this title, so let’s delve into some of the mechanics and what to expect in this upcoming title.

While you begin to build your village and recruit settlers, eventually you are going to have to venture out looking for additional resources, and eventually you are going to find a bandit camp. When you come across these encampments, you will be able to see some information about the camp on the map, such as its level of difficulty.

Bandit encampments currently come in three different difficulty levels. One green diamond is for easy difficulty, followed by two yellow diamonds for moderate difficulty, and three red diamonds for the hardest difficulty. However, no matter what the difficulty levels, you should never go alone, so grab some settlers, give them weapons and armor to fight.

Once you have some soldiers, you can place them into squads, so you can have a squad of swordsmen, shield bearers, and even archers. You will be able to give them commands, such as follows me, charge, and attack on the fly, while you engage the enemies.

You will want to attack these bandit camps as quickly as you can because the camps will have a threat radius, which will spawn more bandits, and eventually they will head out and attack your villagers who are gathering resources and attack your settlements. These camps will often be around key resources as well, and once you take them out, you will receive some renown as well as loot their coffers.

However, the scales of combat can be fickle. As you take out the bandit camps, you will catch the attention of other bandits, and you will have a raid meter to keep an eye out, because once the raid meter fills up, the bandits will raid your town. If you do not take them out in a timely fashion, they will loot resources from you, kill villagers, and damage or destroy buildings, because, well, that’s what bandits do.

Bellwright is preparing to launch into early access sometime in the first quarter of 2024, so keep an eye out for it.

What are your thoughts on the combat system in the game?
