Developed and published by Siscia Games, city building simulation game Pompeii: The Legacy is set to release next week, inviting players to journey to ancient Rome and restore glory to the ash-covered settlement.
Set a few decades after the historic eruption of Mount Vesuvius, players will take on the role of the head of a Roman family tasked with rebuilding the city. This generational approach allows players to oversee the growth of Pompeii and navigate the complex needs of patricians, plebeians, and slaves. Each faction has unique ideas about how the city should be rebuilt, requiring players to balance these competing interests to achieve success. However, not everyone wants you to succeed.
Navigating the political landscape is crucial. Players can secure favor by enacting laws, negotiating trade rights, and forming alliances through marriage and contracts. They will encounter emperors and rival families that they must outwit, all while ensuring the populace has enough food and resources. The recent trailer has highlighted the game’s deep supply chain mechanics, emphasizing focus on trade and politics.

Beyond diplomacy, players can also research new technologies for passive bonuses. These bonuses can stem from imperial privileges, family advantages, and various philosophies. The developers have expanded the research trees, offering players even more strategic options. Notably, choices will directly impact the city’s development. Players will need to balance scaling their city and growing their reach beyond the settlement. New trade routes will open to you, the larger the city becomes, giving you more diplomatic opportunities. Political sabotage will also be part of the experience.
Natural disasters, a staple of city-building games, will be a constant threat in Pompeii: The Legacy. Expect challenges such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, fires, famines, and plagues. However, it’s not all doom and gloom. Players can construct coliseums, aqueducts, forums, theaters, places of worship, and bathhouses, all while managing resources, upgrading homes, and expanding food options to ensure their settlers remain happy. Establishing a bustling port will help expand their influence, and cultivating farms will allow the settlement to thrive from the ground up.
Pompeii: The Legacy will include several modes, such as creative, campaign, and sandbox, giving players the flexibility to engage at their own pace. Siscia Games is a veteran indie developer with games spanning space shooters and city builders. Several freelance artists lend their talents when developing the game.
First revealed in mid-2024, you can look forward to picking up the game on Steam, launching September 23rd.
