Colony Sim ‘Night is Coming’ is Hosting an Open Playtest

There is still time to try the game!

After years of development, Wild Forest Studio is getting ready to release its first Slavic mythology-inspired city builder on Steam. However, before they launch the eerie Night is Coming, the developers want to know what people think of the game.

In Night is Coming, you have to build your own settlement and not only survive the seasons but also evil creatures that come out at night. Every few days, there is a blood moon, which increases the difficulty of the raid, and these beasts throw everything they have at your village in order to destroy it.

This playtest will have limited content. The developers stated it is only a sliver of what the full game has to offer, and people can beat it in an hour or two. In this time frame, you can expect to explore the starting biome and see how it changes during spring and summer. There will be a variety of weather effects that can impact gameplay, a couple of random events, and an upgradable tech tree to improve your town. But be careful, as you expand your town, the enemy attacks will grow in size.

On the combat side, there were the aforementioned nightly raids. Besides fighting these basic enemies, you can also go out and find a mini-boss lair. There are multiple to be found on the randomly generated map. As for combat styles, your settlers can be trained to use melee weapons and also magic spells. As you defeat them, they will be added to your bestiary, where you can find more information about them. Strongholds are not the only structures you are able to find in the world; there are also blessing shrines that can turn the tide of war and more.

You can get instant access by pressing the green Request Access button on the game’s Steam page. If you are unable to join this playtest before the 3rd of February, rest assured that the developers will release a free prologue soon which has slightly more content than this beta.

Will you be playtesting the game this weekend or wait for the prologue? Let me know in the comments.
