Crimson Desert Teases Multiple Playable Characters in New Gameplay Trailer

A look at the game’s story and open world.

Pearl Abyss has released the first in-series features overview video for Crimson Desert. The studio uses the video to introduce the main character, Kliff, and reveals new details about the continent of Pywel.

As revealed by the developers, Pywel is a single, seamless landscape made up of five distinct regions. Cities sit beside wide wilderness and ancient ruins. The environment can feel calm one moment and dangerous the next because rival factions and roaming enemies are common. A persistent threat tied to a mysterious realm called the Abyss looms over the continent and shapes many of the conflicts you will find.

Kliff’s origins and loyalties drive the early story: he is a warrior of the Greymanes from Pailune. The Greymanes once stood as a force for unity and peace. After the death of their leader Gian, the region unravels and a bitter war erupts between the Greymanes and forces known as the Black Bear. Kliff’s first tasks involve finding surviving Greymanes and trying to rebuild what was lost.

As the story unfolds, the Abyss becomes a larger concern. Pieces of that realm have fallen into Pywel and those fragments alter the land. Restoring balance and preventing others from abusing Abyss power become key goals. The video suggests that these elements will not only matter for the main quest but will also affect how the world reacts to the player.

You can approach quests for different factions and houses in any order, as some missions focus on grand fights to retake fortresses while others ask you to help townspeople with day to day needs. Those choices appear likely to shape how events play out and who holds power across the regions.

Climbing and gliding are part of travel, and a mount provides a steady way to cross land. Later on players will gain access to a mech and even a dragon. Finding Abyss fragments will open fast travel points and eventually lead players into the Abyss itself, adding a clear incentive for thorough exploration.

Character variety are also hinted at in the overview. Kliff anchors the main story but two additional playable characters will join later. Each brings a different combat feel, with unique weapons and skills. The video stops short of deep combat details, promising that future overviews will cover progression, fighting systems, and life in Pywel.

For now the studio has focused on setting tone and scope rather than offering final systems or a release timetable. The Crimson Desert features video gives a useful outline of where the story starts and how the world is structured. Players who want more tactical or mechanical detail will want to watch the next installments, which are expected to dig into combat and character growth.
