DayZ-Inspired ‘Zeverland’ Scraps PvP MMO Plans for a PvE Survival Crafting Game

Zeverland is a new zombie survival game that blends mechanics from DayZ and State of Decay. The game was originally announced as a PvPvE MMO, but after listening to PvE players, the developers have shifted direction and are turning it into a co-op survival experience.

The developers behind Zeverland, a zombie survival crafting game that held its second test recently, have announced a significant change in direction. Based on player feedback the team has decided to shift the game from a persistent F2P MMO into a B2P co-op PvE game with self hosted servers that support both solo and multiplayer. They also confirmed they are doubling down on cooperative survival and “strengthening player protection rules”, effectively ruling out PvP entirely.

At its core, the game is all about player creativity. Instead of forcing you through endless crafting menus and complex progression systems, it lets common sense guide your survival. Need parts? Break down a gas station toilet. Want a weird weapon? Duct tape a clothes iron to a tennis racket and make an electrified club. Want a home on wheels? Put a bed in an RV and take your base wherever you go.

The team wants players to be able to freely mount living quarters, storage modules, and combat fixtures onto vehicles, turning them into mobile homes. Roof racks, solar panels, and ramming spikes are mentioned specifically. The world itself is a seamless 5000 square kilometer map with mountains, lakes, abandoned towns, and farms to explore. You can build a base anywhere and recruit NPCs from across the map to handle cooking, construction, security, and other tasks while you are out exploring.

Zeverland roadmap 2026

The developers also shared an updated Steam roadmap of what they are refining next. Expanded faction storylines, a power system, Rainroots Hordes, ziplines, farming and fishing, more weapon assembly options, NPC and building polish, and larger maps with richer points of interest are all on the list.

I think the shift from a PvP-focused MMO to a co-op PvE experience is a good example of developers responding to community feedback before release rather than after. It makes Zeverland more approachable for players who just want to survive with friends without worrying about being raided while they’re offline.
