After eight long years of no new trailers, developers Deep Silver showed not one but two new trailers for their upcoming game Dead Island 2. At Gamescom 2022 we got the cinematic trailer as well as a combat gameplay trailer, and to top it off there is also a release date.

Cinematic trailer

The trailer showed a playable character going about his day. It seems like the zombie apocalypse has been going on for a while as all the characters in this trailer do not seem to be faced by the undead anymore and casually walk through the streets (as casual as you can be when there are zombies trying to eat you). The new location for the game is set in Los Angeles. 

Gameplay trailer and more

This trailer focused more on the gory combat Dead Island 2 has to offer. It starts off showing us the new location we will be fighting the undead in when it transitions to the gore. All the classic weapons are back, guns, pipes, and your feet. There seem to be some guns with special features such as fire bullets. None of the special crafted melee weapons were shown the Dead Island series is known for, but the trailer heavily leaned into the use of traps. From fire, electric, and even explosive traps there seems to be a wide variety of them. The game also seems to take a more fun approach to the story, unlike the earlier games that were more serious.

At the end of this trailer, we also get an official release date for the game. February 3rd, 2023 is when we can expect Dead Island 2 to hit store shelves.

The game will have six playable characters who are all immune to the virus, and it will be up to you and up to three of your friends to rid Los Angeles of the infected. Each character has a unique personality and will have their own dialog during the story making replaying the game with a different character feel just a little bit different.

Perks make a return from the other games. Level up your character and choose what skills you want from a variety of different perks.
