Developer Blue Isle Studio has flown down from their lofty, floating islands to leave us with more details about the game. The latest news for Guardians of the Wild Sky, a creature taming survival RPG, points to some interesting insight into what they envision for their flying airships.
The weather will play a major role in the world. In many survival games, airships don’t typically take wind and swells into consideration. The developers plan to change that in Guardians of the Wild Sky, giving airship captains more to keep an eye on than where to land. This will give variations in speed as well, depending on how much canvas you let out. Lift will be provided by fins on the side, which will put you into a new mode, allowing you to pretty much maneuver in any direction. Or do a zero radius turn.

The developers of Guardians of the Wild Sky have also mentioned that ships will be modular, giving you control over how your ship looks. Builds will have a blueprint system, allowing captains to save their builds and share them. As seen in the first gameplay overview, guardians discovered along the way can assist on board. These magical creatures, each with their distinct personalities, will serve as partners in shaping the skies and taking on various roles, including manning cannons, handling repairs, crafting, or farming. This will give you even more options while you man the helm.
Also planned for later in the game is advanced equipment, allowing your ships to be outfitted with everything from engines to fuel and giving you the resources you’ll likely need to secure while adventuring. Guardians of the Wild Sky is still in active development, and the developers are looking for feedback, which can be shared by visiting their Steam page and joining the community.
