Frozen Way has released a new trailer for their upcoming alien world survival game Honeycomb. We got a closer look at the planet and its ecosystem, a hint at the story, a new release date, and big news for console survivors.
In the trailer, we get to see more of how base building will work in the game. You build up your shelter with the use of an egg-shaped object, and the building itself looks similar to the Subnautica games.
It also explains a little more about the playable character. You will be playing as a person named Hennessy. She left the safety of Earth on a mission for a company called Eon Corp. While on Sota7, Hennessy has to explore and observe the wildlife and fauna of the planet.
We also got a better look at the animals that inhabit this place, like the Woxes and other creatures they shared with us a few months ago.
Most importantly of all, we got a glimpse of an item we can craft, which will aid us in traversing the land, a hoverboard! Only requiring two currently unknown resources, it looks like we will be getting this mode of transportation very early on.
The trailer closed with a big reveal, the game got a slight name change in the form of a subtext, Honeycomb: The World Beyond.
The developers explained their reasoning behind the title. The inspiration comes from nature and how a honeycomb plays a vital role in our planet’s survival. Bees, in particular, are crucial to humanity’s existence, and without them, we would not have survived long on Earth.
In the game, one of your primary jobs is to cross-pollinate plants similar to bees, this is why they chose the title “Honeycomb”. The subtitle “The World Beyond” conveys the other main feature of the game, which is exploring an alien planet.
To top it all off we got a new release date, while it should originally be launched into early access in December of this year, the date has been pushed back to Q3 of 2024.
There were multiple reasons for the delay, the developers wanted to release it as a complete game instead of an early-access title, and they have something big planned that they are currently keeping under wrap.
There is also good news, Honeycomb will launch not only on PC but also on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on the same day.
Would you rather wait until the full release, or do you think releasing it in early access was a better idea? Let me know in the comments.
