HumanitZ 1.0 Brings Massive Survival Overhaul

A reimagined world with deeper survival mechanics.

After three years in development, HumanitZ has officially reached its 1.0 release, marking a major turning point for the game and its community. The update represents more than just a version number. It reflects months of remastering, performance improvements, and system overhauls shaped by player feedback. With this launch comes a complete reset, including new saves and wiped servers, giving everyone a fresh start in a rebuilt world. Lock and load, it’s open season on zombies.

HumanitZ is an isometric, sandbox survival game set in a post-apocalyptic world where a zombie outbreak has driven humanity to the brink of extinction. Players explore environments that range from wilderness to abandoned cities while managing hunger, exposure, and limited resources, all while facing infected creatures and hostile survivors alone or with friends. Survival depends on scavenging ruins, living off the land, building shelters, and maintaining vehicles for travel and supply transport. Characters can be customized through professions, and must adapt to dynamic weather systems and different zombie variants.

But enough of the general details, let’s get into the new stuff. One of the most noticeable changes in 1.0 update arrives through redesigned character models and customization options. Players can now choose from new body types, hairstyles, tattoos, and clothing, creating more realistic and personal survivors. Alongside this, the game’s skill and profession systems have been rebuilt, introducing locked skill trees, multiclassing at higher levels, and a steeper progression curve that rewards long-term commitment.

Survival itself has become more dangerous with the overhaul of the infection system. Instead of relying on chance, every hit now builds infection over time, with severe consequences if it reaches critical levels. New medical items, armor effects, and crafting options give players more tools to manage the threat, but careful planning is now essential. Death also carries heavier meaning, as all accumulated experience is lost. If it’s a zombie game, do we still call it a corpse run when we die? I’ll let you decide.

Anyway, combat and looting have received meaningful upgrades as well. Ranged weapons now feature recoil, sway, jamming, and persistent ammo, while special ammunition types add tactical variety. A new vicinity loot system allows players to easily select items in crowded spaces without overwhelming menus.

Beyond mechanics, the 1.0 release expands its world with a updated map that has been completely overhauled, filled with new points of interest, with richer environments, and improved navigation. Previously inaccessible regions, including The Island, now serve as endgame content for well-equipped survivors. New quests, added lore, and refined tutorials further support both newcomers and veterans.

With improved server tools, updated difficulty settings, and renewed anti-cheat measures, the 1.0 release sets a strong foundation for future updates, and I’m looking forward to what’s coming next.

HumanitZ is available on Steam and offers a generous launch discount through February 20th.
