Misery Drops New Roadmap Before Its Steam Release on October 23

The game is set to go nuclear, and that’s just the beginning.

If you’ve ever wanted to play a survival game that feels like something from the PS1 era, developer Platypus Entertainment is about to release Misery, a rogue-lite survival adventure that looks like a mix between Stalker and 7 Days to Die. The game was recently featured in Steam Next Fest, where the demo was downloaded over 300,000 times.

In Misery, you get to play as part of a paramilitary group tasked with guarding a research zone deep in a nuclear test area. You will not be alone, though. Bring along up to five friends to play and survive with. You and your team can scavenge procedurally generated locations after the nukes fall, discovering radioactive wastelands, abandoned cities, and research facilities. Or you can spend your time studying anomalies and artifacts scattered throughout the world.

All the classic survival elements are here. If you die, I mean, when you die, you lose whatever you were carrying, with no way to get it back. Resource management is a must. You will have to decide whether to push your luck on an expedition or return to the safety of the bunker with what you have already found. Combat options range from axes to rifles, giving players plenty of ways to deal with what lurks in the wastes.

With the news that the game will be released soon, the developers have shared a roadmap for future updates, and it is ambitious. Planned features include mod support so the community can add its own content, expanded bunkers with more furniture and interior customization, and a pet system that could introduce companions like dogs, cats, hamsters, or even a fish. Players might even be able to assemble a helicopter as a long-term goal. Character customization would bring new visual skins and cosmetics, and two new modes, Hardcore and Adventure, are also planned.

Also, the world and exploration could see new and reworked locations, cold weather mechanics, more anomalies, unique artifacts, and new mutants and bosses. Combat and crafting are expected to be improved, including overhauled weapon animations, smarter enemy AI, new ingredients and recipes, and expanded farming mechanics. Other updates could include new cosmetic items, more lore, achievements, and improvements to the UI and UX, all expected to arrive sometime in the coming year.

These are just some of the things we can expect in the game, and I can’t wait to check out Misery, coming this Thursday on Steam.
