New Salt 2 Update is Looming on the Horizon

A storm is brewing.

Lavaboots Studios has shared some details regarding the upcoming Salt 2 update, which will add new weather mechanics, cooking improvements and more.

Even though the game is still in Early Access, the developers have continued to update and add new features almost monthly. I am pleased to know that a few of the most requested features are being added in this update, namely wind, storms, and additional sailing mechanics which have been lacking. Firstly, we are now able to raise and lower our sails, for better control of the speed of our ship, raise your mast halfway you can travel at half speed, fully open your sail to harness the full power of the wind to propel your ship onward.

Also included will be wind direction, which will introduce a fresh dynamic. By keeping an eye on the flag atop your mast, you can determine the direction of the wind.

Sail with the wind for a nice speed boost. But be wary, as now occasionally the sky will turn dark and ominous, the wind will pick up and rain will begin to fall, and the calm sea will become massive waves pummeling your ship as you will see a new splash animation as your ship crashes through the waves. We will also be able to turn our ships without having to get out and push it or redeploy it.

Though not a huge change to the way we currently sail our ship, it’s a step in the right direction, and they state they have more sailing mechanics planned.

The second of the three-part main mission will also be included in this forthcoming update, and it will continue our pursuit of cult leaders while also introducing us to new sites of interest and a rumor of a new village with a witch doctor.

Cooking has had a little overhaul—well, the recipes anyway—so they have reduced the number of meals in the game but have added more interesting effects to the ones that will remain. Such as increased headshot damage, increased attack speed, and more, but don’t worry, there will still be potions and meals that will be able to increase your base stats.

Some additional decorations will be added to deck out your ship even more; you will be able to loot and craft a few different tiers of spyglasses with varying levels of magnification, as well as other balance changes and bug fixes.

And finally, the developers wanted to let us know they are still working on multiplayer; currently, you can join other players and run around and explore together, but they are still working on making it sync up better with the animations, health positions, and ships. They say it’s coming along well, and that they will have additional updates on multiplayer to announce in the coming months, and that we can expect this update to go live on the beta branch in about 4-6 weeks.

Do you enjoy the changes the game’s developers are making? What features would you like to see in the game? Tell me in the comments section below.
