Gamepires has released a new major update for their open-world FPS survival game SCUM. Version 0.9 adds new mechanics, updates the old bunkers, introduces a new enemy type, and two new DLCs.
A new way to obtain end-game loot
The biggest addition to this new update is the reworked bunkers. The old ones were replaced by larger and more interesting ones. Besides the ones that were already found on the island, the developers added a few extras for players to find. In total, you can explore 18 bunkers to seek out and venture down into.
In order to enter the new locations, you either need to find an item called the killbox card. This acts as the master key for one specific bunker. The other way is by making use of the new hacking mechanic, this is possible as long as there is power going to the door. If it’s powered, you can interact with the panel and a mini-game screen will open where you have to match numbers to unlock the door.

Upon entering the bunker, you will find many powered-down doors. In order to get the electricity back on, you will need to locate the generator room and collect fuses found around the place. They will only last a short while depending on their strength, some will last four minutes while others can last up to 20 minutes.
In previous updates, you were able to level every attribute except one, intelligence. You will now find upgrade modules and be able to use them at the BCU module upgrade station, which is located inside the bunkers. Once you route the power to this machine, you can install it right away. The chance of success depends on your medical skill level. If you were to fail, the module only gives you a 0.5 boost. To guarantee nothing goes wrong, you can visit a medical trader and let him install the chip for a fee.
Dangerous enemies lurk in the depths
While exploring the corridors of the bunkers, you can encounter two new enemies. Razor is the outcome of a failed experiment. They lived down here for years and claimed it as their home. They are highly territorial, hiding in the darkness and attacking anyone who trespasses onto their territory. They are rather strong and if threatened will attack in groups.

The second failed experiment was named Mr. Brenner, a large man with a flamethrower for an arm. He is an immortal being, and the only way to survive an encounter with this mister is to flee. As long as he hears you he will give chase, you can slow him down by shooting him, making it easier to escape.
Two new cosmetic DLC have been added to the store. One comes with eight different charms you can hang on your weapons for a personal touch. The other pack grants the player 15 weapon patterns to customize your guns with.
How do you like the new and improved bunkers? Let me know in the comments.
