Solarpunk Brings Big Changes to the Building System

Building has never been so easy.

The building system is my favorite feature to mess around with in survival games, and I was really excited when I saw the large list of decorations and build styles that Solarpunk had to offer. In the most recent update, developers Cyberwave revealed that they reworked and improved this very system, giving the players more freedom when decorating their dream floating island house.

Objects like walls and foundations will now easily snap to one another, making the process of building easier and faster. Wall, ceiling, or floor items will automatically snap to their respective surface. However, I think some of the best quality of life features are the ability to place a carpet under other furniture without having to remove them first. I can not count the number of times I wanted to lay them down as an afterthought and had to remove half the room I just designed.

During development, Cyberwave found a bug that they are considering keeping. When you place a hanging item on a ceiling or the bottom of a shelf and then remove the object it is hanging off, it will stay floating in the air. They asked their community if they should keep this in, and it received an overwhelming yes.

Some of the models and collisions have been reworked, so players can now place decorations almost anywhere, as the game now allows for slight clipping of objects. For example, this change lets you place plants closer together since the leaf’s hitbox no longer blocks another plant from being placed next to it.

The skybox and lighting have been improved, removing the harsh color change in the sky and making blend in better. A new item was shown as well, an automatic fisher. When you provide this with solar power, it will float around a pond collecting trash and storing it in a nearby chest. If you would like some more details about the fishing mechanic and what materials you can find, be sure to check out our previous article.

What do you think of the floating objects, should they keep it or not? Let me know in the comments.
