Subnautica 2 Reveals What’s Coming Next in New Roadmap

New biomes are on the horizon.

It appears Unknown Worlds has outlined what players can expect during the Early Access period for Subnautica 2. And I have to say, the future looks bright. Let’s put our swim trunks on and see what’s in store.

First off, the studio is focusing on a mix of larger content expansions and smaller updates aimed at improving stability, balance, and quality-of-life features. The roadmap doesn’t attach specific release dates to each phase, but it gives a clearer picture of how development will unfold over the coming months. Which is fine. Instead choosing to polish the existing experience rather than introducing major story content immediately. The developers said the team has already been working on adjustments and fixes to smooth out gameplay that players felt needed refinement Early Access launched a few days ago. That includes tweaks to mechanics and general usability improvements designed to make exploration and survival feel more consistent.

A second planned update will place more attention on co-op play, which has become one of the most discussed additions to the sequel. Unknown Worlds acknowledged that players have already requested improvements for multiplayer sessions and said those additions are currently in development. While exact features weren’t confirmed, the studio indicated that community feedback is directly influencing what gets prioritized during Early Access.

Future updates are planned to introduce new biomes, additional creatures, fresh resources, tools, and vehicles, along with new story chapters. Alongside those expansions, the studio said bug fixes, optimization work, and balancing changes will continue throughout development.

As mentioned before, community suggestions are already shaping discussion around the game’s future direction. One of the most common requests involves scale, with players asking for a significantly larger map that supports longer and more varied exploration routes. Weather systems have also become a popular topic, particularly ideas involving storms, rainfall, and regions with constant thunder activity that could interact with base-building mechanics.

Some fans are pushing for a stronger horror atmosphere closer to the tone of the original game. Requests have focused on making encounters more tense while still preserving the visual beauty and isolation that defined the first Subnautica. Vehicle discussions remain active as well, especially calls for a massive submarine comparable to the Cyclops from the original game, along with additional large-scale transport options.

Multiplayer communication tools are another recurring request. Players have proposed proximity voice chat systems, including radio-style mechanics where signal strength weakens over distance. Some suggestions even involve upgradable communication equipment tied to exploration and vehicle systems. So, Unknown Worlds has a great list in hand for the future.

With all that said, they did emphasize that the roadmap may change over time, so, there’s hope. I’ll soon be filling my air tanks and jumping back into Subnautica 2!
