The Planet Crafter Introduces Highly Requested Third Person Camera

The game has also received a new biome and visual upgrades.

A new update for The Planet Crafter is now available, bringing one of the most requested features since the game’s release. Developer Miju Games not only added a full third-person mode, but also introduced a new biome, along with both gameplay and visual enhancements.

The 2.0 update comes as a large overhaul rather than a routine patch, which expands the game with a new biome on Prime, along with improvements to existing areas that make exploration feel more varied. New portal locations have also been added, opening up additional paths for players who want to revisit older regions or search for resources in less familiar terrain.

Skyboxes, terrain, vegetation, and water have all been reworked, while new environmental events add more movement to the world. Planets visible in the sky now reflect actual locations within the solar system, with their appearance shifting based on terraformation progress.

The third person mode stands out as a long requested addition. It allows players to better view their character and surroundings, something that has been frequently discussed by the community over time. Earlier versions of the game only allowed limited external views through emotes, making this a more complete solution.

Beyond camera changes, the update introduces several gameplay additions, such as a rover jetpack upgrade that improves mobility, while new buildable items expand base customization. Adjustments to construction snapping and interface behavior aim to make building more consistent, especially when working with larger structures. Players can now lie in beds, which also functions as a way to save progress in single player.

Performance improvements are also part of the update. The developers have made changes to reduce memory usage and improve CPU and GPU performance, alongside updates to drones and general systems. Existing saves remain compatible, though players using mods may need to remove them if issues appear.

The 2.0 update has arrived two years after the full release of the game, which is pleasantly surprising, considering that Miju Games is just two people working on The Planet Crafter.
