Victorian-Steampunk MMORPG ‘Lord of Mysteries’ Promises a Faithful Novel Adaptation Ahead of Launch

Lord of Mysteries gives off Bloodborne vibes. The game is going to be a hybrid MMO, similar to Where Winds Meet, allowing players to explore the world solo or in co-op while still offering traditional MMORPG features.

Being a writer myself, it’s exciting to see books being adapted into games. I hope that one day I’ll get to see an ARPG set in the world of my own books. The author of the Lord of the Mysteries series, Yuan Ye, must be thrilled to see his work brought to life in this way.

What is known about the game so far is that Lord of Mysteries features a gothic atmosphere and occult themes similar to those found in Bloodborne. The game is also shaping up to be a hybrid MMO like Where Winds Meet, where players can play alone or with friends while still offering traditional MMO features. Players can create their own protagonist, known as an Extraordinary, who interacts with characters from the original novel. These encounters include side missions with fan-favorite characters such as Melissa and Gehrman Sparrow. Standalone animations will recreate pivotal moments from the story, allowing players to experience key events from the original novel.

The game will also incorporate the series’ occult power system, with 6 playable pathways confirmed, including Warrior and Bard, while the 22 pathways are expected in total. There are also rumors that powerful pantheon entities may become playable or summonable.

Lord of the Mysteries will bring players to a richly detailed Victorian steampunk world featuring iconic landmarks such as Saint Selena’s Cathedral and Chanis Gate. The adventure spans the novel’s Western-inspired continent, including familiar locations like Tingen City with its cobblestone streets and crimson moons, as well as Backlund, where hidden cults operate in the shadows. The developers have stated that they aim to faithfully adapt the entire novel, recreating every major story beat alongside many memorable side stories.

SPARK NEXA has stressed that all narrative content will be accessible in-game with no extra paywalls, even intense side quests like Dunn & Dellen’s tale are considered “free content.” The game promises continuous updates to move the entire novel into the game, with a focus on expanding key plot events and characters.

Overall, Lord of the Mysteries is shaping up to be a distinctive MMORPG that blends the novel’s rich world with engaging gameplay systems. Its strong focus on storytelling should be especially appealing to longtime fans of the series.

The Chinese launch is set for August 21, 2026, with a global release to follow. Lord of the Mysteries will be available on PC, Android, and iOS.
