After being delayed for nearly 8 months, developer HypeTrain Digital has announced a new date for the Steam release of their space train survival game Voidtrain. While the game has been out on the Epic Games store for almost 2 years, it was supposed to release on Steam last year. According to the developers, the delay was because they wanted to finish Chapter 1 first.
What to expect
You travel through the void on a small train, set on a linear path. Throughout the game, you collect resources that are floating around in the air and construct new tools, workplaces, and more. Every once in a while you come across a gate, entering this leads you to a new area with different enemies or a station to explore. At these locations, you can find new items, lore, and more. But most importantly you are able to upgrade the size of your train there.
The void is not all peaceful as there are hostile enemies, both humans and a huge space shark that wants to kill you.

There is also friendly wildlife and non-human NPCs. These friendlies are called Rofleemo and are small, cute, big-eyed creatures you will meet on your journey. After meeting them you can recruit them and give them tasks. They will walk around your base, collecting resources from the void, and even buff the player.
While you ride through the seemingly endless void, you can find quests to complete where you have to craft items or clear stations, including other things.
Voidtrain can be played both solo or with friends in online co-op with up to 4 players. Currently, the prologue and chapter 1 of the story are present which should give people plenty to do until the next updates come out. On release, the game will be $29.99, but this can change once Voidtrain hits full release.
What the future holds
Over the course of the early access launch, you can expect many more additions to be added to the game. New chapters/quests will be released, which will flesh out the story. These objectives will bring you to brand-new locations to explore and fight through. More enemies and game mechanics will be added too. The developers have stated that they are working on additional side content that will make Voidtrain more immersive and engaging.
The game is currently on track to leave early access sometime in 2024. However, HypeTrain Digital stated this might be pushed back since they want to make sure the final product is as good as it can be.
Voidtrain is launching into early access on Steam on May 9th at 4 PM GMT.
