Volcanoids Promises A Massive Overhaul for Its Open World Map

Volcanic island is evolving!

Developer Volcanoid has revealed big future plans for Volcanoids, a survival game inspired by the Steampunk era.

After the latest Tesla update, many fans were requesting a larger game world to play on due to the implementation of all the new items. Turns out the developers were thinking the same while developing the game for a while now. They have been working on a new and larger island for the last couple of months. It will have plenty of room with new points of interest, dangers, and lore pieces.

Like the current map, the upcoming one will be split into three areas. These will be more apparent than the island we have now. Each area has its own look and feel, similar to biomes.

The starting zone is covered with lush green fields, trees, and lakes. This will be the most peaceful area of the three. While exploring, you can find cities where humans used to live. These settlements have gotten a substantial upgrade over the ones currently in the game. It will have a robust underground sewer system where you will be safe from both robots and eruptions.

The second area’s visual style is inspired by ‌Yellowstone National Park. It will have many geysers, toxic lakes, and damaged nature. This location used to have a large mining operation, so you will be seeing a lot of mining equipment and machines.

The third biome draws inspiration from the Saint Helen Volcano. This area can be pretty hot due to the lave lakes that are everywhere. The developers said that in its current state, the location looks a lot like Mordor from The Lord of the Rings.

Similar to the surface world, the underground is split into three different depths as well.

The top layer has a lot of waterfalls and cracks in the ceiling that let sunlight through.

Going down to the middle section, it becomes a lot darker and the area is filled with toxic air. To survive down here, you will need to wear a gas mask.

Going all the way down into the depths of the earth, you need a heat-resistant suit to survive, as there is magma all around you.

A boss cave has been teased as well, but no other information has been given.

The developers did note that this is a long-term project and players should not expect this to be released anytime soon. For those who are worried you won’t be able to play on the current map anymore, the devs did state it will be playable in some way.

With a larger map better mobility is required and not long after the new island is released they will add vehicles like a motorbike.

What area sounds most interesting to you? Let me know in the comments.
