XL Games has recently revealed more of what they’ve been working on for the upcoming MMORPG, ArcheAge Chronicles. This game isn’t a sequel or a reboot, but a fresh story set 50 years after the original. Instead of sticking to the traditional MMORPG formula, the game shifts its focus to tighter combat, a more deliberate pace, and a shared world that emphasizes small-group play over massive battles.
Auroria was thought to be lost for many years, but word has it that it has been rediscovered. You play as a seasoned explorer, hired by one of the richest trading companies around to investigate the ruins and find out what happened all those years ago. These dungeons will be filled with enemies and feature a huge boss at the end. During battle, you can make use of three styles: melee, like swords and daggers; ranged; and powerful magic that allows you to summon massive lightning storms. To make the fights feel more fluid, you can dodge, roll, block, and parry incoming attacks. But you won’t have to do it alone; you can form a party with your friends and conquer them together, as seen in the gameplay trailer.

Life skills are also part of this game, some new, such as hunting, and others returning, like housing and crafting. These have been given a makeover, as now you can interact with the furniture you place down, and NPCs will walk around your house instead of standing still. You will also be able to share your house with others, so you don’t have to decorate it alone, and you have a place to discuss what dungeon you will be taking on next. Crafting has been made more impactful for the progression of your character, and it can also help you earn a pretty penny along the way.
What do you think of the new direction in ArcheAge Chronicles? Let me know in the comments.
