During the first quarter of 2025, The Farm 51 released the sequel to their well-known sci-fi survival horror, Chernobylite. However, this second installment in the series got off to a rocky start with bullet sponge enemies, fewer options for encounters, and a brighter atmosphere, which fans did not enjoy. Three months after launch, the CEO stated that they would address many of these problems in the next update. Now we have received more details as well as a release window for megapatch 3, which they named “Back to the Roots”.
The developers are committed to changing Chernobylite 2 around and are currently working on almost completely reworking the game. The world map will be shrunk significantly, and in turn, each point of interest will be more interesting to explore. As an added benefit, it will also feel more dense with things to do and find. Mainly grim and desolate structures, that is, as loot will be more scarce. This is going to be one of the ways they are planning to make the survival aspect feel more in line with the original game. The overall visual style will be adjusted too, to make it look darker and grittier, creating a better atmosphere.

Of course, findable materials are not the only thing that needs some balancing. The bullet sponge enemies will be removed, and instead, the IQ of these bots will be made smarter. This way, it is still a challenge but does not feel unfair. Realism is a big part of the game, and with this comes the freedom to complete an encounter in any way you see fit. Many of the limiting factors placed on you by the game are going to be removed. However, to balance it out, weapons will behave more like their real-life counterparts, including the flaws they might have, which can throw a wrench in your perfectly thought-out plan.
These are some of the major changes coming to the game this August. The devs will be tinkering more in updates that follow megapatch 3 but would like to see player input before continuing in order to create a worthy sequel to the game that many people love.
