Echoes of Elysium is a New Take on Airship Survival Games

Could this be the airship survival game we’ve been waiting for?

Created by Loric Games, the airship survival RPG Echoes of Elysium has been in active development for several years, and its coming release marks the start of a broader effort to build the game alongside its player community. The idea of flying ships that I can build on really gets my gamer soul soaring, and ever since this game flew into view, I’ve been keeping an eye on it.

Set in the floating skies of Elysium, the game places players in a fractured paradise where survival depends on preparation, cooperation, and engineering. Players inhabit a world filled with soul-powered clockwork creatures, hostile factions, and environmental threats spread across distinct airborne biomes.

Exploration and progression are centered on airships, which act as homes, workshops, transportation, and combat platforms. Every ship can be customized piece by piece, allowing players to shape their vessels into nimble scouts, heavily armed fortresses, or something in between.

Combat unfolds both in the air and on land, with players leveling up, unlocking abilities, and crafting gear and ship components as they grow stronger. The game supports solo play as well as online co-op for up to six players.

Loric Games has stated that the Early Access period is intended to be a foundation for ongoing development rather than a finished product. Recent delays ahead of release were used to address technical concerns, including crash fixes, performance improvements, and a full transition to a newer version of Unity. These changes were aimed at stabilizing the current build so it can better support future updates and player feedback.

A central part of this approach is the game’s growing Discord community, which has become the primary hub for discussion between players and developers. According to the team, the server has steadily expanded over recent months, with players actively sharing feedback, discussing mechanics, and participating in conversations about the game’s direction. Developers regularly engage in these discussions, host voice chats, and run live Q&A sessions and gameplay streams. This ongoing dialogue is positioned as a key part of how systems and features will evolve throughout Early Access.

That collaboration is already influencing development. Recent previews shared with the community highlight improvements to animation and combat systems. Player and enemy animations have been smoothed out, with physics now applied across outfits, constructs, and flying machines. Elements such as clothing and capes now move naturally during motion, contributing to more fluid movement overall. New attack animations have also been added through updated animation tools, further refining combat responsiveness and visual clarity.

With customizable flying bases, cooperative play, a mechanically driven world, and an open development process, Echoes of Elysium marks the first public step in a longer roadmap, launching into Early Access on Steam on January 27, 2026.
